[edit] Tips and Tricks
- The quickest way to get to the center of the galaxy is to stock up on Mega Health Packs and Mega Energy Packs and just make a run for it. It may take a few tries but is the only way to get there without starting a war with the Grox, or allying with the Grox, likely starting a war with everyone else. The achievement is not recorded if you use any cheat.
- Unless you turn off your auto-blaster, you will almost always start a war with the Grox when trying to get to the core. The best way to get to the center is to buy the Interstellar Drive 5 and try to find which wormhole will take you closest to the core. Your distance can be found if you scroll over the UFO above your progress bar. The shorter the distance, the closer the wormhole is located.
- Once you are in it fly as quickly as you can to the core. If you must stop at a star to plan where to go next, pause the game. If you make it to the core by a luck of fate, but the Grox are now at war with you, enter, receive the Achievement, and exit without saving. You won't have the Staff of Life, but you will have 42 and "peace" with the Grox. But something unknown or maybe known, The Staff of Life. It's initials is S.O.L. which is also our solar system Sol!
[edit] References
- 42 is the answer on the Ultimate Question to Life, the Universe, and Everything in the book "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (what the question is wasn't known.)
- Note: As shown in one of the sequels, The Restaurant at the end of the Universe, the question is "What do you get if you multiply six by nine (Not six by seven, a common misconception)?". Apparently, Six times nine in base 13 is indeed 42. It is known that an alternate numbering system is used in this question. However, it was also revealed that this question was warped, due to Arthur not being truly an Earthling.
- Steve (or at least something that looks like Steve) is on the cover of Sim City 2000.
[edit] Extras
If you fly into the Galactic Core, you will meet Steve, who speaks in an actual voice and will award you with the Staff of Life. This tool can instantly terraform any planet they are used on to T-3. You can also earn the "Talked to Steve" Rare.
The Staff of Life has 42 uses.
