In Spore, after attaining four cities, citizens will discover Air Vehicles. After returning from the Vehicle editor, the player can then build for a cost of §3000. These vehicles can fly over any terrain, including mountains. If you send military air vehicles to attack a city, they will shoot lasers at the city, instead of firing missiles at them. The vehicles, however, cannot detonate bombs over cities. The vehicles also can not create Spice harvesters, although they can capture them.

Although players actually can design a plane that looks and sometimes even runs like helicopter, it does not have any special advantages, disadvantages, or other specialties, besides the speed, which usually differs anyway.
