Koldren Azhdarakha, otherwise known by titles as Zaghadla Incarnate, Exarch Azhdarakha, and the Conqueror Wyrm, is a Ottzelloan zazane essence adept and the current Exarch of Ataraxis, a tripartite organization functioning as a cult, criminal syndicate, and private military contractor. A former warlord and self-proclaimed 'hero' of his species, Koldren was sealed into an indefinite Chronoscopic stasis via the machinations of Durzhan and later reawakened by Falrik Zaarkhun in a greatly diminished state, instigating a long pursuit to not only restore his lost power and status but surpass his original achievements. After accruing the necessary wealth to fuel his aspirations, he separated from the Zaarkhun Consortium and established himself in Andromeda with the religio-spiritual paramilitary group Ataraxis, operating a mercenary fleet with an ancient zazane battlecarrier - the Black Horizon - as its flagship and mobile headquarters.

A figure of great ambition and little conscience, the Exarch perceives himself as a demigod and saviour to the zazane, believing that his species would either prosper under his mandate, degenerate under the influence of alien species and cultures in the Gigaquadrant, or drive themselves into extinction. His ego is reinforced by his mastery of Descension energy and his violent proficiency as a warlord, alongside recurring visions of potential future events and the attainment of his 'destiny'.

History[]

Early Life[]

Oh blood of my blood, the Archtyrant seeks to silence us, with swords to our necks and knives in our backs! What grand design is this, that our lives are lived in his service and our reward is death?

- Koldren Azhdarakha, Left Hand of the Archtyrant, addressing his cult following a failed assassination

Born in the 2090s and drawn from the firstborn ranks of Clan Azhdarakha, a prominent and extensive military family in the upper echelons of Ottzelloan zazane society, few details are known of Koldren's ascension due to efforts from Durzhan, the Shadow Warlord of Ottzello, and the Archtyrant Naethrax to redact available information from the annals of history. As an aspiring warrior in his youth, Koldren developed an affinity for prophetic visions and perceiving potential futures, applying this talent in combat scenarios in combination with his natural skill for Dark Chronoscopic and Descension energies to great effect. Among these visions, he saw a divine warrior-ruler and 'saviour' for his species: unifying their disparate empires across the stars; reshaping their forms in the image of Zaghadla; and imbuing their blood and essence with divinity. Initially interpreting these visions to prophesize the future of the Archtyrant Naethrax, Koldren believed himself to be a herald of such a future and sought to realize it.

In his prime, Koldren was a renowned warlord sworn to the Archtyrant's service with tithes and oaths of blood and a popular figure among the soldiery of the Kasnoth Empire, deemed as the Left Hand of the Archtyrant in many circles due to his victories and ruthless treatment of his enemies - a title the Archtyrant never accepted or denied in any official capacity. For all intents and purposes, Koldren was one of the most revered champions of his people and exercised his influence with lavish parties, sharing the spoils of his conquests with warrior fraternities and local cults to the Archtyrant, and public triumphs designed to humiliate traitors, criminals, and prisoners-of-war.

Outside of the public eye, Koldren gained a notorious reputation due to retaining certain criminals and prisoners-of-war as personal concubines within his numerous estates and having his way with particular guests at private functions, with his influential status affording a significant measure of social protection. His private reputation only worsened when, in the event of dealing with angered friends and relatives of his victims, he would challenge them to fatal duels to decide his innocence in the matter - a challenge often rejected due to his sheer potential and skill, while any who accepted met brutal and humiliating ends before the eyes of government officials, the public, and other witnesses. Many of his victims were threatened into silence, either against themselves or against their loved ones.

Rise & Fall of the Conqueror Wyrm[]

Between the late 2250s - early 2260s, decades before the Great Blyro War, Koldren was the subject of a failed assassination conducted in secrecy by the Archtyrant. While the explicit details of the assassination are expunged from historical records, it is suspected by many there were two coinciding factors that caused the Archtyrant to turn on his Left Hand: the first, partaking in campaigns and conquests without the official sanction of institutions under the Archtyrant and seen as undermining the value of his authority; and the second, the emergence of numerous 'bastards' proclaiming their heritage to Koldren and inheriting his potential, perceived as potentially destabilizing to the Archtyrant's grand designs and serving as evidence of Koldren's violations.

A third potential reason for the assassination is speculated to be the Archtyrant's suspicion that the divine warrior-ruler in Koldren's future visions was not himself but a potential future version of Koldren that would prove a threat or unpredictable factor in 'the Perfect Fate' of the galaxy, as arranged and overseen by Durzhan. While the Archtyrant was never fully aware of the true details or end result of the Perfect Fate, Durzhan served as his patron and taught him how to cultivate Chronoscopic energy and how to most effectively use its arts, thus placing Naethrax in his debt as a permanent asset to the Perfect Fate's success.

The failed assassination caused Koldren and a fervent gathering of supporters to turn their backs on the Archtyrant's imperial designs, with 'Left Hand of the Archtyrant' abandoned in favour of a new title - the Conqueror Wyrm - and Koldren coming to view himself as the divine figure in his prophetic visions. One of the Conqueror Wyrm's initial decrees was the legitimization of any and all of his bastards that rallied under his command (termed 'gold-blooded'), while the Archtyrant had secretly gathered, raised, and trained numerous of Koldren's bastards under his own wing (termed 'black-blooded') and used them as infiltrators and saboteurs among the ranks of his followers. While Koldren was a powerful individual threat in the moment, the Archtyrant had long prepared for the eventuality of his betrayal and any potential threat he posed to the Shadow Warlord's Perfect Fate.

Koldren and his forces were eventually routed by the Archtyrant with the Shadow Warlord's intervention, with his command structure compromised by his black-blooded bastards while his gold-blooded children either were assassinated, surrendered to the Archtyrant, slain in battle, or turned their backs on their father's cause for one reason or another. At the climax of their final confrontation, Koldren personally fought and bested the Archtyrant and his retinue in combat, although he had ultimately lost the war. Before dealing the final blow to the Archtyrant, the exhausted and weakened Koldren was ambushed by Durzhan, who used the opportunity to strip the Conqueror Wyrm of his Dark Chronoscopic powers once and for all. While Koldren was rendered powerless and the majority of his forces met their end, many survivors retreated into the interstellar wilderness, later becoming mercenaries who would fight in exchange for resources and currency in future conflicts.

Still too powerful to be permanently slain by either of his opponents, Koldren was sentenced to a form of indefinite temporal stasis by Durzhan, ideally never to be freed until potentially after the Perfect Fate was achieved - a fate that Koldren was rejected from with the stripping of his Dark Chronoscopic abilities. The Archtyrant ensured that the renegade zazane would be hidden and sealed in a secret location, all records of the conflict expunged, and all black-blooded and gold-blooded bastards culled to end the threat of his bloodline. For approximately 500 years, this was the state of Koldren the Conqueror Wyrm, unconscious and frozen in time while the galaxy changed and forgot about him entirely.

- Admiral Decrake

Gods are always headache, cult leaders with aims of deification are no better, Koldren? He might just have been both at once.

- Nosferatu Hexus of the Nocturnal Legion of the Drakodominatus Tyranny

It is only by enlarging the scope of one's tastes and one's fantasies, by sacrificing everything to pleasure, that any person, thrown despite himself into this sad world, can succeed in gathering a few roses. We share quite a bit in common.

- Hedon Morillium of the Sons Of Hedon of the Drakodominatus Tyranny

Admittedly part of the inspiration for the Overseer project and for Nosferatu. Although his strength and personality are rather respectable, if he tries to touch any Dominatus, male or female, Alpha, Beta, Lambda, Psi, or Omega, he shall know the true meaning of violation of every facet of his being.

Godhood is but one of many lies the living tell themselves. Would-be 'gods' believe it makes them all-powerful; untouchable, deserving of reverence and fear. Know that such ambitions serve only to be crushed.
