Amvradhati Vashuvikhar, known as the Devourer's Witness, the Dark Thaumaturge, and the Sorcerer Ascendant, is a hseraelna occultist, one of Shu'wokerama's Corruptus Vanguards, and the Archmagister of the Symphonia. Formerly a para-xenological scholar of the Borealis Galaxy's Paradigm who specialized in kondrakar remnants, Amvradhati sold their soul and forged a pact with the Nightmare God in exchange for arcane secrets and answers - including access to nightmare energy and the cosmic mysteries of the Nightmare Region. As the Dark Thaumaturge of the Vanguards, Amvradhati is compelled by mystical obsessions and lost information, believing the true path to dominance lies in unveiling the fundamental layers of reality and acquiring hidden understanding that far exceeds mortal comprehension.

While not the most powerful of the Vanguards, Amvradhati is insightful beyond measure and deceptively versatile due to his dualistic mastery of both nightmarish and elemental energies. Where the other Vanguards offer power, strength, and charisma, Amvradhati offers wisdom and esoteric knowledge, compensating his weaknesses with the drive to explore depths of unknown possibilities. His talents involve the tactical mass summoning and enhancement of demons, significantly amplifying the effects of nightmare energy, and contributing intricate sorceries to the Corruptus' occult technologies.

Following his transformation, the Sorcerer Ascendant lives in the shadow of his failure to destroy the Destined of Dreams, resulting in the rise of a powerful anatheme and an undying conflict between fate-bound nemeses. While commanding countless legions of Mor'natio, in truth, they function as watchdogs of the Nightmare God for any potential signs of failure and betrayal. Within the cults of the Corruptus, Amvradhati serves as a spiritual guide and a tutor of nightmare energy's arts, mentoring numerous scions in its spells, rituals, and lore across the decades.

History[]

Origins & Early History[]

Truth and lies.

Raised and trained as an essence prodigy within the ranks of the Paradigm, few details are known of Amvradhati Vashuvikhar's childhood and early life, aside from his familial brood and various personal experiences ascertained from self-documented journals written prior to his descent. By his own account, Amvradhati was an experienced oneiromancer in his youth, divining all manner of secrets and information - conversations, events, locations, outcomes etc. - from the threads of his dreams and nightmares. These early successes with oneiromantic divination and the development of his essence-craft provided access to numerous fields of study, with Amvradhati undertaking the discipline of para-xenology and specializing in the mysteries surrounding the Ancient Three, with a specific focus on the remnants of the kondrakar.

An early foundational experience was the young oneiromancer's first exploration into the astral plane, for within the depths of his sanctum, Amvradhati discovered a source of deep and powerful darkness: a nightmarish thoughtform calling itself the Thaumaturge, manifesting as an ethereal hseraelna and offering the oneiromancer insight and clarity to their visions. In exchange for hidden wisdom, the Thaumaturge requested that Amvradhati keep its existence a secret, otherwise it would lose all form and substance if revealed to the universe beyond. It is unknown whether the Thaumaturge was an astral embodiment of the young oneiromancer's darker aspects or an otherworldly visitor, or some combination of both or neither, yet the result remains that Amvradhati agreed to keep the promise and reluctantly embraced its guidance as an astral influence.

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Despite his status as a Corruptus demon, Amvradhati is superficially the least corrupted member of the Vanguard, resembling an otherwise tall and imposing instance of his species at first impression due to his refined mastery over the flow of nightmare energy throughout his body - barring the Corruptus Heart manifesting from his chest. The signs of the Dark Thaumaturge's corruption are revealed in subtle physiological details, with each of Amvradhati's eyes serving as blackened windows into the Nightmare Region, his tongue replaced by a plethora of lashing tentacles within his throat, and visceral crawling motions beneath his flesh as nerves, veins, and other tissues have transformed into writhing tendrils. The presence and influence of Amvradhati is preceded by a discomforting aura as shadows deepen and intrusive thoughts bubble to the forefront of consciousness, followed by the sense of a fixated predatory gaze found in all directions.

The Dark Thaumaturge prefers to keep his mouth concealed from sight via masks and veils, both to hide the thrashing appendages dwelling between his jaws and to avoid any potential enemies or rivals from reading his lips as he whispers spells and incantations into reality. Amvradhati is drawn to all manner of capes, cloaks, hoods, and robes that flow with an ethereal breeze, accompanied by bracelets and charms inscribed with occult symbols of the Corruptus for unknown purposes. Beneath his heavy layers, the Devourer's Witness is adorned in a suit of black ceremonial armour bearing runes and icons that evoke the Nightmare God, alongside his most treasured possessions: an ancient kondrakar religious amulet, intricately designed to invoke the symbology and sigil of the Xhodocto Eye Diafthora, and a similarly ancient Dominion vibrosword retained in an ornamental scabbard.

Personality[]

Amvradhati is deeply solemn and contemplative, carrying himself with a reserved and pragmatic demeanour. Neither a fanatic or warrior in the conventional sense, he approaches his role from a philosophical and spiritual angle, drawn to the Corruptus by the promise of intrigue, mystery, and insight into the universe's inner workings - knowledge and wisdom serving as his path to the domination of reality. The Devourer's Witness is known to question the logic and actions of the other Vanguards in both competition and cooperation, as he views questioning as a vital process resulting in either reaffirmation or consideration for unforeseen circumstances and consequences. He is experimental and risk-prone in his methods, believing hardship and failure to be necessary and valuable lessons towards success, experience, and enlightenment.

The Dark Thaumaturge shows greater care for the cultists of the Corruptus than his companions, believing in their worth beyond fodder for the Nightmare God and has drawn numerous apprentices from their ranks. Due to his origins as a xeno-paranatural scholar, he has compiled excessive archives of lost and forbidden information across the planes of existence accessible to him, alongside documenting the properties of various essences throughout the First Gigaquadrant. While he maintains many schemes and experiments, he is notably obsessed with the idea of recreating a stable synthesis of nightmare energy and its dualistic celestial counterpart, as the result has been achieved once before with his involvement.

While he treats the other Vanguards more as acquaintances than true friends, he collaborates most frequently with the Dark Apostle and the All-Mind, often combining his talents and insight with theirs to further each respective angle of the Corruptus' endgame. Amvradhati respects Varugr the least of the other Vanguards due to his sadistic relishing in mortal torment, where 'meaningless' suffering and despair is the endgame of the Torturer rather than furthering any deeper goals or hidden wisdom. Additionally, the Devourer's Witness sustains a mutual and deeply personal ongoing enmity with Hachiman, the Destined of Dreams, considering them his nemesis and the ultimate obstacle to overcome on his path towards dark enlightenment and universal dominance.

Abilities[]

Amvradhati shows exemplary control and refinement of nightmare energy, demonstrating the sheer versatility in the essence's potential applications and an intricate understanding of the true extent of its corruptive nature. The Dark Thaumaturge can exert nightmare energy across the cultists and demons of the Corruptus - including the other Vanguards - to empower their capabilities, reinforce their forms against damage, and improve their regenerative healing by significant degrees. He excels in asymmetrical and unconventional conflict, using tactical and precise summoning of a variety of demons as appropriate to achieve specific goals, and can summon, guide, and empower swarms of Mor'natio to perform his bidding as their current master. Amvradhati can additionally create basic and complex material structures formed of nightmare energy as it can behave as states of matter, alongside improving equipment and weaponry incorporating the essence in numerous ways.

Complimenting his control of nightmare energy, Amvradhati was an adept of elemental energy prior to his descent and retains many of the paranatural abilities gained from his mortal experiences in conjunction with his Corruptus powers. At their simplest and most passive, he demonstrates highly-advanced awareness of his self and environment, sophisticated pattern recognition, and forms of telepathy and precognition. The Dark Thaumaturge is a masterful psychonaut of the astral planes, using a combination of essences to widen his reality tunnel, conjure and dismiss thoughtforms, and invade astral planes beyond his inner sanctum to flood them with symbols of nightmare energy and more deeply corrupt their inhabitants and visitors.

Quotes[]

Collective groupings - empires, communities and nations - like to imagine all demons are bloodthirsty and remorseless. That the only thing that satisfies them is destruction and carnage. How alien must the vanguard Mordethai be to these ideas? He is not addicted to death or bloodshed, he craves knowledge, not the essence of life. What satisfies him is discovery. Far from being underwhelming, I see this as making him the most dangerous kind of demon. For he knows and craves to know your every weakness and your every virtue, everything that made you and what you believe. What could a monster with such a mind as his do with this knowledge?.

- Sarec

With you I feel comfortable. You do not scream for blood, complain of the endless fathoms of mortal igorance. Perhaps there is wisdom in distancing myself from the rabble I used to think I was making safer?

- High Inquisitor Arsac

Witness the coming of the nightmare. Bring about victory in our name. It is what you are made for.

- Shu'wokerama

Your species are thralls, acolyte. I made you to be thralls, and you are indeed a thrall; perhaps not mine, but someone else's anyway.

- Lord-Padre Maknagrius of the Kondrakar Dominion

He is an annoying know-it-all... but his occult knowledge is useful in our goals. At least, he is more tolerable now than when we first met.

- Mahedore
