The Noogle explores its home planet.
The Noogle explores its home planet.

After a player's creature grows from the Tide pool phase, they enter the Creature Phase. In the Creature Phase, players evolve their creature from a small worm-like animal up to an intelligent species, with many possible changes along the way. Once the creature learns to work together with other creatures of its species, the player enters the Tribal Phase.

To proceed from the Creature Phase to the Tribal Phase, the player's creature must mate with another creature of its species, and evolve its brain level higher.

In the Creature Phase the player's creature will not be the only species inhabiting its world. Predators and Herbivores exist alongside the player's creature and can act as a food source, or try to eat the player's creature.

The Creature Phase could be compared to the prehistory in the real earth

[edit] Unanswered questions

  1. Are amphibious creatures (or other combinations) still possible?
  2. Are subterranean creatures possible?
  3. Are arboreal creatures possible?
  4. Will an underwater portion of the game still be included? Although an underwater feature was shown in the Spore 35 min. Demonstration from the GDCe, the Tidepool Phase appears to have been altered, so the Creature Phase may very well be altered in this way as well, seen in the Recent Creature Phase Preview, which displays no underwater portion. Wright has revealed a possibility that underwater creatures would come in an expansion set.

[edit] Answered Questions

  1. Are flying creatures still in the game?
A Hands-on Preview at bit-tech.net revealed on February 13, 2008 that giving characters wings still allows them to fly, and it is an ability that can be used to your character's advantage. Source here
The Creature Creator also confirms this, though it refers to the ability as gliding.
