[edit] Our Story Begins...

Only a few million years had past since the planet's devastating encounter with a comet, totally obliterating most life on the surface, including the Zomm, a race of sapient beings that had once held dominance upon the lush sphere. But, as with all things in nature, life began anew from the few remaining organisms that had survived the catastrophe. What was once barren expanses of desert had once again begun to return to the sight of flora and fauna that once had inhabited every nook and cranny. Even so, however, the species were still few and far between.

Most races that had survived however had been microscopic, but the comet had left large traces of sulfur everywhere due to frequent eruptions as the planet's complaint against the agony of destruction, and just enough collected everywhere to stunt the evolutionary process in all living matter -- evolution was at a standstill. However, as the aeons progressed, the sulfuric levels in many areas, especially that saturating the water, ever so slowly began to diminish. And as the sulfur levels reached near their original neutral zone, the miracle of evolution began once more.

One of these organisms to start anew happened to be a group of single-celled Protists that had survived the disaster, as many other races had, by learning to adapt to allow their sulfuric tolerance to peak. Now, however, the Protists were faced with a choice. The sun had opened up more recently, allowing for more light. The diatoms had yet to really increase or decrease in population, but the amoebas had slightly increased theirs. Nematodic worm sightings had been rare lately, but they did occur. The Protists' current diet was the Diatoms, although if they didn't increase in population, there was the possibility of starving.

And thus the history of the Aurix began to unfold.

[edit] Evolutionary History: Tide Pool

A Zocax, an early ancestor of the Aurix and all their relatives.

The known history of the Aurum starts with a small protista known as Paramecium euvaris; however, it is a well-understood fact that this was not the original strain the species originated from, as it already possessed the necessary traits to have survived the great catastrophe of the Zommian Era -- this should mean there was at least two species to have been euvaris' ancestor.

Life for the euvaris and the rest of their species began and ended within a significantly large tidal pool, located nearly smack-dab in the middle of their continent, Zeeon. This location was a veritable hot-spot for life to emerge, and because of this it was rife with microscopic predators, ready, willing, and entirely capable of ending the lives of those who were not considered fit enough to survive.

While a menagerie of different species scooted, floated, paddled, or wriggled along in the warm, calm waters, several stuck out; these are listed below.

  • Dessiles: The Dessiles were superficially similar to diatoms, due to the fact that they led similar lifestyles. Dessiles were at the bottom of the food chain, and were prey to most predatory species.
  • Zocax: The Zocax and their kin would eventually lead to the Aurix and their kin.
  • Amebozoans: Ameboid in nature, the amorphs were . While the Amebozoa are extinct, they have lead to a few more prominent groups that exist in modern times.
  • Vorms: A number of worm-like species called Vorms evolved during this time, with the most infamous ones being those who turned into the apex predators. The Vorms dominated the waters, and although only three groups are known to have survived into modern times, only two of these are known to be the ancestors of prominent groups.
