[edit] Reclassification
Yikes...Amorcephopoda's description basically would include nautiloids, ammorites, cuttlefish...the whole lot. Every cephalopod with a shell. I think we need to do away with this taxon and reclassify its sole member. Just looking at it, I can guarantee it's a cephalopod, but I haven't done research to classify it further yet. I'll do that after I finish the tentacled beak. Schnautzr 19:33, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- It should probably just go in an order called terranautiloid or something. Quadricephodae should probably be renamed to tetracephodae Carenthos 19:45, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think I'll go so far as to rename the family, since it seems legitamate, but I'm actually thinking we ought to gerrymander Nautilopoda to having tentacles that serve as a means of locomotion on a solid surface. That way, we're recognizing an apparent relationship between the tentacled beak and the ruiku squid spider. I think this will be a simple move, simply moving Quadricephodae to Nautilopoda, and cleaning up the descriptions of the two taxons. Amorcephopoda will become obsolete, and we can file it for deletion. Schnautzr 20:01, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- I think that it would be better to distinguish between the two sets - one lot on land and the other in the water. It seems that there is enough difference between them to do this and it should allow for more options to distinguish between creatures in the long run. Carenthos 20:21, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- I see your logic. Good idea. So the solution is to move Quadricephodae to a new order, Tetracephodae and make Amorcephodae obsolete. Schnautzr 20:28, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- Do you mean move quadricephodae to the order terracephodae? To have a family called 4 legs within an order called four legs seems a bit stupid. I'll deal with this now Carenthos 10:04, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I have finished changing this around. I made an order called ostraterrapoda in the end. Carenthos 23:24, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- What does ostra- mean? East? Normally, I'd look this up, but I'm on my way to bed right now. Schnautzr 04:20, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not good enough at greek and latin to do naming exactly right so I generally go to this website: http://www.kypros.org/cgi-bin/lexicon, type in a word or two that describes the group and sort of make it up from there. Ostra in this case is take from the word ostrako which hopefully means shell. As soon as a greek reads all these taxons they're going to hunt me down and kill me for the way I have mutilated their language. Carenthos 10:00, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
They would probaly just complain, plus im talking to you through a time portal, im really half-a-year into the future since your last post here. How cool is that!!! (Armageddon11(DANIELSJ14) 00:16, 15 February 2009 (UTC))
