[edit] Weather
Weather patterns such as electrical storms occur on T0 planets, but none affect you unless you are flying a UFO through them.
[edit] Climate
All planets have a single climate which is determined by a value along two axes: temperature and atmosphere level. the temperature is a measure of the heat or lack thereof on the planet's surface. the temperature is controlled by the distance of a planet to it's star, as well as any terraforming that has taken place. Atmosphere level is the basic thickness of the air, which seems to be random, but expect better atmosphere score on planets in the "Goldilocks Zone," planets which are neither too close nor too far away from their star. Planets with medium atmospheres almost always have plants already there.
[edit] Natural disasters
In the creature stage volcanic eruptions may occur when near a volcano, and occasional meteor showers will also occur. In either instance your creature may be instantly killed by falling rocks or lava. In the tribal stage, your chieftain has the Refreshing Storm ability if you were a herbivore as a cell, and can cause rain to fall. In the space stage animal populations may have diseases, a problem which is usually solved by killing them.
[edit] Terrain
The terrain of different planets can be very varied; including grassy plains, ash colored lava-planets, pink-coral like rock, and many other land types, though no planet will have more than one color. Most planets will have variation in color with elevation changes, but the planet will essentially be one color. There will be hills, mountains, and valleys to give texture to the landscape.
[edit] Biomes
A biome is a huge ecosystem with many varieties of landscape and climate. Spore currently does not support the creation of multiple ecosystems within one planet, and an entire planet invariably will have the same general ecosystem. Also see Habitat.
[edit] Swamps
There is water and land, with beaches at their convergence. No information on whether there will be swamps in future releases has been made available.
[edit] Editing Tools
Terraforming Tools may be used to alter the climate of a planet, whereas Terrasculpting Tools may be used to add mountains, lakes, rivers, or even mountains shaped like big daisies. Planet Coloring Tools may be used to alter the color of the planet's atmosphere, land, or seas.
[edit] Moons
Planets can have moons, but not more than one. It seems that moons can also have life, and you may even be able to start out on a moon. Most or all planets seem to be able to have moons, even Gas Giants.
