Never again will we be divided by petty divisions. Never again will world turn against world and family turn against family. The Empire will restore security, order and peace, an indivisible force unlike any seen before. For the Empire is whole once more, it will grow and strengthen as we march to retake the galaxy!

- Galactic Emperor Tyrómairon at the close of the New Cyrandia Wars, 05 NE

The Greater Empire of the Cyrannus Galaxy, commonly referred to as the Galactic Empire of Cyrannus, the Empire or the Imperatore, is a Gigaquadrantic hyperpower based in the Cyrannus Galaxy. An authoritarian and militaristic regime, the Empire is composed of tens of millions of systems located throughout known space, ruled from the ecumenopolis Orbispira by the Galactic Emperor Tyrómairon, a being considered to be the Empire's eternal protector and guide.

The largest known civilisation in the history of the Cyrannus Galaxy, the Empire spans 113,900 contiguous light years within Cyrannus, in addition to a multitude of intergalactic domains, ranging from directly governed provinces to protectorates, including Rambo Nation and the United Lanat Empire. Within Cyrannus, the Empire is also the largest civilisation ranked by population, dominating the densely populated galactic interior, including the Western Core, the Inner Rim and the Mid Rim, as well as the sparsely populated, though resource-rich Outer Rim. The Empire has a monopoly on the oldest transgalactic hyperlanes in Cyrannus, vital for trade and maintaining the Imperial Navy's dominance over the galaxy. Though challenged by the New Republic as claiments to the title of galactic government, the Empire maintains historical legitimacy through control over the Core World of Orbispira, the centre of Cyrannian galactic governance since the earliest days of the First Republic. The major hyperlanes of Cyrannus invariably lead to Orbispira, which housed the Imperial Senate prior to the body's dissolution in 14 NE. The Emperor's chosen Mandators and Grand Mandators now directly govern the Empire's sectors, though entirely at the pleasure of the Emperor, who rules Imperial space absolutely.

A force of dominance unrivalled in galactic history, the Empire was forged and united under the Oikoumene Emperor, who orchestrated the cluster-spanning Great Cyrannus War to supplant the belligerent United Republic and the Old Confederacy with a vast regime under his command. The early years of Imperial rule, known beyond the Empire's borders as the Dark Times, were characterised by total Imperial control over the civilised galaxy and expansionist campaigns in the Quadrant Galaxies, Andromeda, Borealis and Mirus. This period of unchallenged might came to an end with the establishment of the New Republic and the outbreak of the New Cyrandia Wars in 03 NE, pitting the Empire against an insurgency led by the self-proclaimed Cyrannian Imperial State. The conflict ended in 05 NE, with the Empire emerging victorious over the rebellion at the Siege of Vasuband.

The resultant era of peace was marred by the onset of the Cold War between the Empire and the Republic, with both powers abandoning their wartime partnership in favour of a Gigaquadrant-spanning battle of influence. Simultaneously, the Empire's Phaedric Order and Imperial Inquisition came into open conflict with the Republic-aligned Aldárae Order and the Cyrandia Resistance. This war, fought in the shadows, would directly lead into the Second Great Cyrannus War, which would span the Gigaquadrant, pitting the Empire against the New Republic for control over the Cyrannus Galaxy.

Characterised by an imperialist outlook toward the rest of the Gigaquadrant, an omnipresent military, as well as a highly pervasive intelligence agency, the Empire is considered to be one of the most feared civilisations in existence. Nevertheless, while the Empire forsakes the freedoms offered by the democratic New Republic in favour of increased security and order, Imperial space is prosperous. Entrusting the Imperial leadership with political power, the Empire's citizenry instead focus on higher learning and the finer aspects of what they consider to be the epitome of civilised society. As a result, Imperial citizens are often regarded as pompous and arrogant, believing in the Empire's duty to bring order to the uncivilised regions beyond Imperial borders. Unlike the Republic's xenophilic pursuit of relations with extragalactic powers, the Empire is dismissive, expanding their influence across the Gigaquadrant through fear, rather than cooperation.

History

Origins

By the people the Republic was built, and by the people it was brought down.

- Rambo Historian

The origins of the Empire lie in the incomprehensible mind of Tyrómairon himself, partly in line with his belief that only through Oikoumene leadership would the universe finally experience a pacified and ordered existence. Upon his return to the Cyrannus Galaxy during the Intergalactic War, he began to set this nefarious plan in motion. A crucial aspect of this plan led him to influence the political atmosphere in both the United Republic of Cyrannus and the Confederacy of Allied Systems, subtly building a power base for his eventual ascension. The genius of his plan succeeded magnificently, and soon the Cyrandia Cluster was engulfed in the Great Cyrannus War.

RiseoftheEmpire

The new Emperor dissolves the Republic Senate and replaces it with the Imperial Senate.

During the course of the war, Tyrómairon constantly worked to ensure that neither side of the bloody conflict would gain a distinct advantage over the other, though he began to allow the Republic to gain more and more ground during the final months of 01 BNE. Though these efforts were important in ensuring the smooth transfer of power, Tyrómairon also used his growing influence over the admiralty and the senate of the Republic to begin an unprecedented military buildup unusual for a democratic civilisation, eventually making the Republic one of the most powerful civilisations in the Gigaquadrant, with projects such as the devastating Terminus weapon successfully protecting the galaxy from the horrors of the Second War of Black Fog. During the final weeks of the war, Tyrómairon began to make his presence known, orchestrating the Battle of Orbispira and the final demise of the Confederacy all the while using his political minions to prepare the Republic for its unprecedented move to dictatorship.

By the time Tyrómairon first appeared in the Republic Senate, his victory was all but complete. Aided by a parchment given to Senator Guolivian from a mysterious benefactor which severely damaged the public's appreciation for the democratic institutions of the Republic, Tyrómairon declared that the Republic had ended and a New Order would arise from its ashes. The Cyrannian people, who had grown severely tired of the chaos wrought by war, were quick to accept these changes, bringing about the rise of the Galactic Empire of Cyrannus, one of the most powerful hyperpowers in Gigaquadrantic history.

Rise of the Empire (01 NE - 03 NE)

During the first months of its existence, the Empire accelerated the military buildup that began under the Republic, bringing into mass production devastating new vessels such as the Imperator-class Star Destroyer and various other doomsday vehicles designed to ensure Imperial dominance in any region of space they found themselves with. As Imperial expansion increased throughout Cyrannus, it also increased in the various other galaxies in which they now had colonies, particularly the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way Galaxy, conquering native species with ease if they were deemed to pose a threat to Imperial interests.

After failed attempts by the Empire to invade the Quadrant Galaxies through the Cyrannian-Quadrantia Wormhole, the discovery of a wormhole under the soils of Capricaerón led the Emperor to authorise an invasion through this new gateway. Over the next several weeks, the largest Imperial fleet ever assembled entered the wormhole and immediately materialised in orbit over the Rambo Capital. Thus, the brief but bloody Imperial-Rambo War began, during which the Empire caught the Nation by surprise, securing orbit over the planet and forcing Ramashe herself to surrender. Upon the Emperor's arrival a few days later, Ramashe was forced to sign the Nim-Glaré Concordat, which placed the Rambo in a protectorate in which the Empire would be free to use Rambo facilities and trade routes for their own purposes. In return, the Rambo would be able to call upon the Empire for help if faced with a potential threat.

Fall of Hope 05

Rambo Nation surrenders the Empire; a key moment in Gigaquadrantic history.

By the time the Empire's first year ended, its power was already near absolute. However, it also faced many dangers that could damage the new regime. In Cyrannus, the Empire faced further resistance from civilisations such as the Republic Remnant and the resurgent Confederacy while in the Quadrants, the new protectorate faced threats such as the Quadrantia Grox and the Hutter Kingdom, neither of which would submit to Imperial rule. However, the Empire would also enjoy a rapidly expanding sphere of influence brought about by Concordats such as the military alliance signed between the Empire and the United Lanat Empire in the Mirus Galaxy while in the Borealis Galaxy, Imperial agents manipulated events in the Zoles Imperium that led to vast tracks of their empire joining the Empire.

By the end of the second year of Imperial rule, the prospects of the Empire were particularly bright, with the Republic Remnant defeated and vast tracks of the Gigaquadrant now loyal to the Emperor's decrees. However, the war with the remnant of the Confederacy led by Taros Cassynder showed no signs of ending and carried in to the next year, which would ultimately prove to be one of the most important in Imperial history. The greatest threat to the Empire would ultimately come from within, with Imperator Tyranus of the Basileus growing deeply unhappy with his lack of influence in the New Imperial Order at the expense of Libertus Grand Mandators such as Tereyn Aeresius and Deoclet Caesarius. Working from the shadows, the Imperator was close to sparking a fully fledged rebellion within the Empire when the Emperor himself learned of the treachery. Appearing in person at one of Tyranus' conspiratorial meetings, the Emperor singlehandedly killed the Imperator's supporters and banished his demonic bodyguard Mar-Júun from the Cyrandia Cluster. The Imperator himself was killed soon after, though the lingering nationalism of the Basileus was not removed.

After the defeat of the Republic Remnant, the Emperor himself granted a reprieve to Apollo and his supporters, even going so far as to allow the creation of a new republic to serve as a home for those who wished to remain independent from the Imperial way of life. The reasons behind this curious move are unknown, though it is likely a part of the Emperor's plans for the galaxy. Ultimately, the New Cyrannian Republic was formed later in the year, taking up residence in the Coru Secundus region of Cyrannus. However, it was not the Republic of old. Their hopes for a return of the Cyrandia Alliance were dashed by the close relationship which developed between the Rambo protectorate and the Imperials, who in turn maintained cold though neutral relations toward their new Republican rivals.

After the death of Imperator Tyranus, some of the outlying races of the Empire such as the Basileus began to grow uneasy with the perceived dominance of the Libertus over their space. Led by Tyermaillin, the self-proclaimed Imperator of the Basileus, many races split from the Empire to found the Cyrannian Imperial State. The first act of this new galactic power was to invade and conquer the Basileus homeworld of Vasuband, succeeding with little resistance. Simultaneously, the Empire arrived in the Finduila Sector of Endless Space, where it quickly conquered the sector and formed the Legatus Finduilica under Grand Mandator Schlimm Eklig Statthalter. Under Statthalter's leadership, the sector became exploited to feed the worlds of Cyrannus.

New Cyrandia Wars (04 NE - 05 NE)

In the aftermath of the Invasion of Vasuband, the Cyrannian Imperial State quickly seized many key hyperlanes leading to the Unknown Regions, foremost among these being the hyperlane linking Vasuband and Moreuse. Though defended by the heavily armed Leyawiin Station, the planet's Imperial defences were unable to hold the relentless separatist assault led by the recently deposed Zillum, who captured the planet and declared himself the King of the Mortalitas. Soon the conflict spread even to the Quadrant Galaxies, where Grand Mandator Garlboz aided by his lieutenant Mortikran rose up and betrayed the Empire, sending Rambo Nation into conflict once more. Taking control of the feared Angforst Space Station, Garlboz and his forces aimed to control the various wormholes leading to the Quadrants, thus preventing the Empire to send reinforcements. However, to their surprise, the Rambo launched an attack against him with the aid of Imperial Captain Tector Decimius of the Chimaera, ultimately resulting in Garlboz's arrest.

In the aftermath of the outbreak of the conflict, the Emperor formed the Imperial Inquisition in order to hunt down and destroy potential spies within the Empire's ranks. Led by Grand Inquisitor Charcar'maer and overseen by the Emperor's Phaedric Order, the Inquisition quickly became one of the most feared forces of the Cyrandia Cluster, with its Inquisitors earning a reputation as strict enforcers of the Emperor's will. Meanwhile, Imperial scientists also began to introduce the latest advancements in Imperial technology to combat the Empire's new threats.

ImperavelliBattle01

Imperial forces battle the Vasubandian Rebellion during the Battle of Imperavelli.

Despite some talk in the Imperial Senate in joining the newly formed Mou'Cyran Accords in opposition to the growing amount of conflict in the Gigaquadrant, the Empire decided to keep its "options open" but sent their political support. Despite being ostensibly neutral, the Empire is seen by many governments as being strongly sympathetic to the Delpha Coalition of Planets, with most Imperial citizens and authorities regarding their opposition in less than positive terms. To the surprise of many, both Imperial and Republic foreign policies began to appear remarkably similar, with both calling for a return to diplomacy and order over the era of conflict. Despite this prevailing opinion, both the Empire and the Republic would be quick to deny any such similarities with the Empire retaining an imperialistic foreign policy seeking to take advantage of the volatile situation in many outer galaxies.

Meanwhile, the Empire continued to fight the rebels in the Outer Rim, separating the campaign into two theatres in the Northern and Southern Outer Rim. In the north, the Empire began to be pushed back under the full brunt of the rebellious Zillum who managed to conquer the Tiranozark during the Battle of Tyranikus which also resulted in the defection of Grand Admiral Tyrant, bolstering the Imperial State in the space surrounding Moreuse. In the Southern Outer Rim however, the Empire had the definitive upper hand. After the disastrous defeat at Abrion, the Emperor launched the new flagship of the Empire, the ICS Imperatore under the command of Grand Admiral Carandial. Accompanied by a large fleet, the Imperatore travelled to Abrion where it completely annihilated the State fleet under the command of Admiral Chathanglas. Meanwhile, whispers in the Senate began to talk of a possible truce with the still active Confederacy of Free Planets for the duration of the conflict with the Imperial State, ultimately leading to the signing of peace on a New Republic ship.

Though many across the Gigaquadrant considered the outbreak of the New Cyrandia Wars heralded the end of the Empire's imperialistic power grabs outside Cyrannus, a deterioration in the relations between the Empire and the United Lanat Empire would result in one of the most unexpected regime-changes in intergalactic history. Under the leadership of Tector Decimius, an Imperial fleet launched a surprise attack on Lanat Prime along with rebellious elements of the Tralor underground. Ultimately, the battle ended in an Imperial victory, with the holographic presence of his Cyrannic Imperial Majesty himself silencing the voice of Emperor Aoblix. A protectorate status was imposed on central Mirus, though as the Emperor predicted, this resulted in the beginnings of fragmentation in the central regions,, allowing the Empire to continue its nefarious designs for the galaxy without opposition.

In addition to conflicts with the Vasubandian Rebellion and remnants of supporters of Aoblix's reign, the Empire also continued to engage in battles with the Cognatus Empire. In one such battle, the two factions clashed for control over the ancient Phaedric world of Nandóband, which resulted in an Imperial victory and the awakening of the so-called Overseer, in truth an Oikoumene follower of the Emperor, who soon pledged himself to the service of the Empire, becoming a key Overseer in many of the great Imperial campaigns, to the bane of the Empire's enemies, both known and unknown.

VasubandSiege03

The Siege of Vasuband was the climactic conclusion to the New Cyrandia Wars.

However, even the almighty powers of the Oversser did not prevent attacks from a rogue cell of the Corruptus, which attacked both Imperial and New Republic holdings along the Neutral Zone. Though Tereyn Aeresius assumed that the Mou'Cyran Accords was responsible for the attacks on Imperial colonies, he would later agree to a joint effort with the signatory nations of the Accords to destroy the overworld Brezank. The resulting Cataclysm in the Neutral Zone was devastating for both sides, though the timely arrival of the Cyrannic Imperial Battlestation successfully annihilated the demon world.

In the aftermath of a failed State attempt to instigate war between the Empire and the Empire, and the subsequent entry of the Republic into the conflict on the Empire's side, the war began to turn more heavily in the Empire's direction. Coupled with the might of the Imperial Battlestation and the defection of Zillum and Tyrant, the State soon began to flounder. By the end of 05 NE, the Empire and its allies had reached the edges of the Vasuband System in preparation for the final battle. During the Siege of Vasuband, both sides fought desperately for control of the galaxy, with the superior Imperial forces led by Grand Admiral Carandial eventually emerging victorious. With the arrest of Tyermaillin, the State soon collapsed into nothingness, bringing the New Cyrandia Wars to an end and ushering in a new period of growth, peace and prosperity for the Empire.

Cyrannian Cold War (06 NE - 15 NE)

The rightful government of Cyrannus hereby extends the hand of Imperial protection to the Republic. The Emperor himself envisions a bright new future for us all under his just and infinite rule.

- Senator Guolivian during the controversial Daeohre'eri Conference

The immediate months after the cessation of formal hostilities with the Cyrannian Imperial State saw the Reconquest of the Rim campaign against any lingering holdouts loyal to Tyermaillin's fallen regime. Many of the Outer Rim worlds believed that the fall of the Imperial State would result in the Empire once again turning their attention to more important regions of their hegemony, though this would not be the case. Imperial factory worlds such as Cyroenia and Antemurale continued to produce warships and ground vehicles at a rapid pace, with the Empire and his Grand Mandators determined to extend Imperial rule throughout the entire Cyrannus Galaxy.

In later years, the Empire's commanders would recall the Rim campaign fondly, in which vast Imperial fleets ruthlessly rooted out any remaining pockets of State rebellion in the outlying systems. The most important front of the campaign was the Syvehil theatre, named after the Basileus city world of Syvehil which had become a rallying point for lingering remnants of the Imperial State, which had joined forces with independent Panthrea slaver factions. The task of destroying these rebels fell to the Crimson Spear task force under the command of Admiral Tharnak Adraci, who saw victory in the pivotal Battle of Oethluma, which opened the path to the assault of Syvehil, which soon fell to the Empire. These battles would be adapted into award winning holodramas in the coming years, capturing public imagination and raising the already lofty status of the Imperial Navy within the Empire. By 07 NE, the Outer Rim was firmly in the grip of the Empire.

ColdWarPrologue01

Guolivian offers the Republic a place in the Empire; the moment many consider to have started the Cyrannian Cold War.
11 Iunius, 06 NE

With the conquest of the Outer Rim Systems complete, the nefarious eyes of the Emperor turned to the New Cyrannian Republic. In the months since the fall of Vasuband, the Republic had grown to such an extent where its influence rivalled that of the Empire throughout the Outer Gigaquadrant. Under the auspices of trade negotiations, the Emperor himself sent Senator Guolivian to the Republic world of Daeohre'eri, where he infuriated the Republic diplomats by demanding the Republic's subservience to Imperial interests. The conference promptly collapsed, and with it, any hope for a dual-state future for the Cyrannus Galaxy.

In 08 NE, the Emperor met with Kithworto, a powerful Kicath with immense powers over the mystical energies of Essence. While many expected the two figures to be antagonistic due to Kithworto's known ties to the New Republic, the two figures agreed to ally in order to further the spread of order in the chaotic Ikiwa Eropsii Cluster of the Gigaquadrant. Thus, the Avalôtur Covenant was formed between the Empire and the Kicathian Republic, allowing the Kicath to colonise two thousand systems in Cyrannus and over two hundred and fifty thousand in Mirus, bordering the Imperial Administration Zone. The creation of the Covenant received mixed reaction from the civilisations of the Gigaquadrant, many of whom feared the potential repercussions of Kithworto and Tyrómairon aligned together.

With the defeat of the Cyrannian Imperial State, the Empire's attention became fixed on remaining rebels located throughout Cyrannus, foremost among them, the Capricorn Remnant Alliance and the Cyrandia Resistance. Of the two, the Remnant Alliance posed a more considerable threat, due to their pretensions of political legitimacy. Utilising information gathered by Agent Caranye Valaeris, the Empire finally located the Alliance Hubworld in Martex, 08 NE. Under the command of Grand Mandator Deoclet Caesarius and Grand Admiral Mortalagueis, the Empire launched a deadly assault on the Hubworld, utterly destroying the defending fleet before retreating. However, the Alliance did not earn a reprieve, for the firepower of the Cyrannic Imperial Battlestation had been unleashed and the Alliance burned away in seconds. Though the act cowed Imperial worlds into further submission, it led to increased tensions with the New Republic, leading to an array of border skirmishes in subsequent years, including a particularly dangerous skirmish in the Aaenhr System in 12 NE.

Within the Imperial Core, the Empire was forced to deal with the independence movement of Alberensis, sparking an intense planetary war between the Imperial occupational army and local resistance fighters sympathetic to the New Republic. With the war on Alberensis ongoing, the Empire deployed the Ecimaex Wall along the Neutral Zone with the Republic—an armed flotilla of Harrower-class Destroyers equipped with hyperspace cannons capable of destroying enemy vessels as they travelled at lightspeed. When the resurgent Aldárae Order, embroiled in a conflict with the Empire's Phaedric Lords, learned of the Ecimaex Wall, they shared the information with the New Republic, which began planning a first strike against the Wall. Simultaneously, the Aldárae allied with the Cyrandia Resistance, which rallied into a single cohesive fleet to assault the Imperial world Ambar in the Unknown Regions, the homeworld of the Miluiel. During the Battle of Ambar, the Empire was forced to retreat, though became resolved to win the inevitable war to come.

Mou'Cyran Cataclysm

The Cyrannic Imperial Battlestation destroys Mou'Cyran, sparking the Second Great Cyrannus War
39 Ianuaria, 15 NE

At the beginning of 15 NE, the Empire approached the New Republic with the P'ax Cyrannica Concordat, demanding the cessation of territories close to the Neutral Zone, the disbandment of the Resistance and the Aldárae Order and a considerable amount of other concessions which were promptly rejected by President Nexarón Valkistair and the Republic Senate. The Empire had expected this reaction, as well as the joint Republic and Aldárae strike on the Ecimaex Wall. With the battle ongoing, the Empire deployed the Cyrannic Imperial Battlestation and destroyed the Republic capital Mou'Cyran, sparking the Second Great Cyrannus War.

Second Great Cyrannus War (15 NE - )

Thus, as with any enemy of the Empire, when they rise up, we will strike with decapitating vehemence. If that did not suffice, we will continue, we will burn worlds and rend stars until they see the error of their ways.

- Grand Mandator Deoclet Caesarius

With the destruction of Mou'Cyran and the death of most of the Republic's government, the Empire stood on the precipice of total victory. However, Senator Apollo of Capricaerón was appointed President and coordinated with the surviving remnants of the Republic Navy to strike against the Imperial Battlestation. In the subsequent Battle of Cadian, the Republic managed to destroy the station, killing Grand Mandator Taev Vosaetiur and dealing a significant blow against the Imperial military. With the destruction of the station, the northern Outer Rim became vulnerable to Republic incursion.

Society and Culture

It is typical of authoritarian and totalitarian states to suppress art and debase culture, ushering in a period of rampant anti-intellectualism and creative stagnancy. But not in Cyrannus. This galaxy's people cling too much to their high civilisation for any ruler, no matter how powerful, to take it away.

- An excerpt from "Cyrannus, Andromeda and the Milky Way: Civilisation or Culture" by Moreau Kwame al-Hakim, Terran xenosociologist

The Galactic Empire of Cyrannus is a vast regime, spanning from the towering spires and monades of Orbispira, to the distant shores of Terrae and the harsh landscapes of Lanat Prime. As such, it lacks a unifying culture or religion, and is instead bound together under unquestioning loyalty to the Empire, and her enigmatic Emperor. Regardless of species, all inhabitants of Imperial space are considered by law to be full citizens, accorded rights under the Imperial constitution which safeguard their protection in exchange for certain freedoms held sacred by democratic governments such as the New Republic. However, such restrictions vary largely on where in the Gigaquadrant a citizen is—with the least restrictive areas in the Empire constituting the prosperous Core and Inner Rim worlds, which, by and large, benefit the most from the Empire's protection. Worlds in the expansive Mid and Outer Rims, as well as the Empire's extragalactic territories, are, in contrast, under intensive scrutiny, and thus face the brunt of Imperial ruthlessness.

Due to the prominence of the High Cyrannian culture since the rise of the Empire, the vast majority of the Empire's government are great supporters in the arts and as such, the Empire is not severe in its censorship. The Core Worlds of the Empire are cultural melting pots, with the Imperial establishment caring little for the population's freedom of expression, preferring to concentrate on political and military domination. However, many artists and musicians who openly create inflammatory anti-Imperial works have been executed as traitors. The leading galactic provider for information under the Empire is the HoloDomain, a vast network containing a near omniscient connection of information, which functions as the primary provider of news of recent events and entertainment to Imperial citizens. The HoloDomain is not connected to this universe's space time and as such, it can be accessed from any location at any time. However, under the Empire, the HoloDemain has been the subject of invasive surveillance and censorship. Nevertheless, the HoloDomain remains an important aspect of modern Imperial culture, especially in it's capacity for instantaneous communication across the Gigaquadrant.

Discrimination

It is well known across the Gigaquadrant that the Empire practices state-sponsored discrimination against extragalactics. Prior to the outbreak of the Second Great Cyrannus War in 15 NE, Imperial diplomats routinely dismissed the value of partnership with extragalactic civilisations, in favour of a distinctly Imperial brand of diplomacy, in which fear of conquest would drive the Empire's approach to other civilisations. Nevertheless, despite the disdain held by many Imperials toward citizens of the Outer Gigaquadrant, official government policy states that any being who wishes to pledge loyalty to the Empire is welcome to do so. However, with very few exceptions, such citizens rarely achieve power over their Cyrannian counterparts. While such displays of xenophobia are often fed by blind elitism, other, more benevolent members of the Empire's highest echelons advocate for the eventual incorporation of all species, regardless of galactic origin, into the Empire, where they could truly prosper.

Wexord Slavery

Wexord prisoners, suspected as Confederate supporters, sent to prison camps in the Outer Rim.

Nevertheless, such is the disdain for extragalactics, particularly those who fail to meet strict Imperial standards, that during the ubiquitous Imperial campaigns across the Gigaquadrant during the Second Great Cyrannus War, the Empire routinely enslaved civilised species, including defenceless sentients on worlds yet to develop faster-than-light capabilities. These beings are regarded as beasts of burden, useful only to fuel the vast Imperial war machine. This policy of oppression is practised not only in the Outer Gigaquadrant, but within Cyrannus itself, where many nameless species have been erased from the history books in the interest of "Cyrannian security". The eradication of these species, termed within the Imperial admiralty as "strategic extinctions" has been invoked on no less than twenty separate occasions since the foundation of the Empire, most commonly against pre-FTL species on worlds of strategic importance.

Slavery is officially outlawed under the Empire, which went to great lengths to end the slave trade in the unclaimed reaches of the northern Outer Rim, most notably during the annihilation of the Panthrea Slaver Guild in 13 NE. Unofficially however, the practice is increasingly commonplace, albeit under the term "indentured servitude", which, coupled with the reclassification of certain sentient beings, such as the Soúroupa of Consinople as non-sentient—a legal loophole which allowed for their enslavement in all but name. Similarly, political prisoners, such as the former High Queen Asenath of the Panthrea Guilds, are often punished for their crimes against the Empire with eternal servitude, often in the infamous mines of Vurdon.

Open displays of worship are outlawed by the Empire, though private religious practice, while openly discouraged and looked-down upon, remains legal within Imperial space. Provided that loyalty to the New Imperial Order is upheld, Imperial authorities are not particularly harsh in quashing religious practices, particularly in less well-developed regions of the Empire where such efforts would be counterproductive to Imperial rule. Nevertheless, promotion of the ideology of the Imperial Dream of Order and Peace, otherwise known as the Imperial Order, receives such strong backing by the instruments of Imperial governance, most notably by the Commission for the Protection of the Imperial Order, that it has been called a state-sponsored political religion in all but name.

Propaganda

Under construction
LegitimatePower

Ubiquitous throughout the Empire is propaganda hailing the military as a bulwark against chaos—laying claim as Cyrannus' united civilisation.

The Commission for the Protection of the Imperial Order was founded almost simultaneously to the Empire itself, as a useful political tool to ease the Imperial citizenry away from their once cherished belief in the strength of democracy, toward faith in their new Emperor, as his appointed advisors. Throughout the early years of the Empire, civic pride, bolstered by ubiquitous propaganda, boomed across Imperial space. Reports of Imperial campaigns against the Confederacy of Free Planets and the Cyrannian Imperial State, derided as vestiges of the "Old Order", captured the imagination of Imperial citizens. Propagandists had no need to remind citizens of the horrors of war or disorder, nor the dangers of nationalism and xenophobia, when the galaxy had only recently emerged from a galactic conflict driven by such antiquated ideals.

Demographics

Under construction

The Empire is a multi-species civilisation consisting of hundreds of thousands of both Cyrannian and extragalactic species. Like the Republic that preceded it, the most common and politically dominant species in the Empire are the Libertus. This is primarily due to the Empire's heartland being the Core Worlds, where the Libertus are quite prolific. Other species such as the Mortalitas and the Basileus are also important, but due to their past affiliations with the Confederacy of Allied Systems, they are not always trusted among the Empire's civilian population. In the aftermath of the outbreak of the New Cyrandia Wars, races such as the Apationagtus, Alavar and Aquillani also gained precedence in the Imperial order.

Government and Politics

Executive Branch

Tyrómairon

As Emperor, Tyrómairon's decrees are absolute. Dissent is quickly dealt with.

If it is willed by the Emperor, it shall be done.

- Grand Inquisitor Charcar'maer

Ultimately, the Imperial order is absolutely controlled by the Galactic Emperor Tyrómairon, a rule considered by many non-Imperials as a tyrannical one while most Imperials believe it to be just and fair. Though one would expect the Emperor of one of the Gigaquadrant's most visible hyperpowers, Tyrómairon is quite an elusive leader, allowing the Potentate to deal with most of the day-to-day politics of the Imperial court. Nevertheless, Tyrómairon's rule is hardly inactive. The Emperor has often travelled around his Empire and its protectorates to the glee of the Imperial public, such as the highly publicised visit to the Rambo Capital. The position of Emperor is for life, unlike the vaguely relatable position of President of the Republic. As Emperor, Tyrómairon's decrees are unquestionable and those who object to his rule are quickly silenced.

The Potentate is the second highest position in the entire Empire, holding a position far below that of the Galactic Emperor but above that of a typical Grand Mandator. In simple terms, the Potentate handles most of day-to-day running of the Empire as well as often representing the Emperor on the gigaquadrantic stage, serving as the more public leader of the Empire that often serves as the face of the Imperial hierarchy. The Potentate is also responsible for opening and closing sessions of the now servile Imperial Senate, though the present Potentate finds little time for this task. Since the post was created in 02 NE, the title has been filled by Tereyn Aeresius, a strong supporter of the Emperor and a worthy face for Imperial diplomacy. However, the Potentate's power is largely ceremonial, to the point where it is increasingly seen as a ceremonial position of less tangible power than a Grand Mandator, particularly an influential one such as Deoclet Caesarius.

Imperial Mandators are officials that carry out the will of the Emperor in their assigned sectors, functioning as regional governors. The introduction of this rank ruffled many feathers in the traditionalist Senate, especially among the senators who at first believed the Empire would be a direct continuation of the Republic. When an alien civilisation willingly joins the Empire, their leader often becomes a Mandator. A notable exception to this rule was the leader of Rambo Nation, Ramashe who wasn't deemed loyal enough when Rambo Nation initially joined the Empire. However, four years later she was officially declared Grand Mandator by the Emperor himself during his state visit in 04 NE, though this practice has since been ended. Important sectors of the Empire are often grouped together into oversectors under the governorship of a Grand Mandator. Notable Grand Mandators include Deoclet Caesarius of the Core Worlds and Erissare of the Southern Outer Rim province. Grand Mandators wield great power, but are ultimately subservient to the Emperor and, in theory, the Potentate. In reality, Grand Mandators such as Taev Vosaetiur held great influence over Imperial Intelligence while Deoclet Caesarius is considered to be the highest ranked authority in the Imperial military.

First Grand Mandators

The original Grand Mandators were appointed prior to the Cyrannian Cold War, before the Emperor reformed the system, thus allowing for more Grand Mandators to be appointed to oversee key oversectors of Imperial space.

OrbispiraGalacticSenate

The Senate Tower, on Orbispira, in which the Senate of the Empire convenes.

A servile Senate is far more useful, wouldn't you say?

- Deoclet Caesarius

Some vestiges of the Republic remain in the form of the Imperial Senate, which continues to debate issues important to Cyrannus, however what power it had under the Republic is now quite clearly gone. The two main reasons for this is the disdain many in the Imperial hierarchy have for what they see as a hive for old Republic sympathy and the establishment of three new positions of power; Mandators, the Potentate and of course, the Emperor.

Like the Republic Senate, the Imperial Senate was housed on Orbispira's moon of Corunnia, located deep underneath a heavily protected mountain, guarded at all times by a very large Imperial fleet commanded by Admiral Nagala. However, in the third year of Imperial rule, the Senate moved to the capital world Orbispira itself, inside the renovated Senate Tower. Unlike the executive power the Senate held under the Republic, now, the Senate is only able to debate laws and changes to the Imperial constitution, though the Emperor has the ability to completely override any Senatorial decision.

Astrography

Each day, the Empire grows faster and farther, now a large percentage of the entire known universe falls under the Emperor's dark banner.

- Senator Mer Mirea, 02 NE

Even excluding the vast protectorates under the Empire's sway, Tyrómairon's intergalactic domain consists of tens of millions of worlds throughout the First Gigaquadrant, ultimately making it the most expansive civilisation in both the Cyrannus Galaxy and the wider cluster, holding a near hegemonic control over almost any territory it inhabits. The Empire rules from the glorious ecumenopolis of Orbispira in the Core Worlds of the Cyrannus Galaxy, where Emperor Tyrómairon can directly control the Imperial Navy, the Senate and the Inquisition with ease. From Orbispira, the Empire extends throughout the Cyrandia Cluster and into the "Outer Gigaquadrant", a somewhat derisive term used by Imperials to describe what they perceive as the barbaric galaxies beyond the Cluster. This attitude coupled with the Empire's policy of rapid expansionism into these galaxies often comes to the annoyance of extragalactic powers.

The entire population of the Empire would be nigh impossible to count, but estimates generally place the number at between sixty and ninety quadrillion inhabitants. Most heavily populated Imperial held worlds are supplied by raw materials from the countless uninhabited planets within the Empire's reach, meaning that planets can support high populations without falling into anarchy. When the Empire's expansionism first became apparent throughout 01 NE, many claimed that such an exponential rate of growth would ultimately lead to the Empire's collapse under its own weight. However, the exceptional leadership of Emperor Tyrómairon has thus far proven that even when facing a large rebellion, the emphasis placed on efficient and often ruthless leadership - and the harsh punishments for ineptitude or greed - has served this Gigaquadrantic hyperpower well.

Notable Planets

Military

The military is an ocean, it is endless, unforgiving and capable of turning even the most imperishable rocks to sand.

- Grand Mandator Taev Vosaetiur

The Imperial Military is responsible for carrying out military operations across Cyrannus and beyond as well as maintaining order and peace across the Empire's worlds. A massive organisation, the exact extent of the military in terms of active personnel remains classified by the Imperial government, though in order to maintain order across the vast reaches of space under its sway, it would need to be massive in size and scope. However, despite this vast size as well as the frightening technology in the Empire's employ, it is arguable that the main function of the Empire's military is not to actually destroy enemies, but rather terrify them into submission. The military is divided into three main arms, the Navy, the Army and Intelligence.

ImperialFleet

A refuelling operation at Leyawiin Station over Moreuse.

Operating under Army Command and numbering in the hundreds of trillions, the Imperial Army is responsible for the defence of Imperial assets on the myriad of worlds under the Empire's command as well as carrying out land invasions to ensure that any and all threats to the Empire are removed before the inevitable occupation of an enemy planet can begin. However, though the Army is an important facet to the military, its importance pales in comparison to the Imperial Navy which fields millions of warships, science vessels and countless military personnel tasked with maintaining Imperial dominance throughout the Cyrandia Cluster and beyond. The Imperial Navy's primary role is the defence of Imperial held worlds against potential enemies, such as pirates and enemy invaders. However, another important role is the invasion of enemy controlled space, as well as border control and blockades. The Imperials also have no qualms in laying waste to enemy planets in a manner of minutes, by using orbital bombardment, or the dreaded Base Delta Zero protocol, the complete annihilation of a planet's surface.

Secretly operating above the various commands of the military is a mysterious Imperial Overseer known to only a few, who serves as the military's main strategist. Beginning his operations in 05 NE, the Overseer has become a dreaded figure whose operations are almost entirely successful, to the woe of the Empire's enemies and the delight of Imperial patriots.

Operating in the shadows behind both the Navy and the Army is the enigmatic Imperial Intelligence, which stands as arguably the most controversial organisation within the Empire, with its extensive population of spies being a major source of paranoia among the other nations of the First Gigaquadrant. However, it is also the deadly and feared reputation of the Empire's unscrupulous agents that spark fear in the galaxy's natives. Much like their Emperor, Imperial Intelligence plans for every possible scenario and consistently works to ensure that the Empire comes out on top. However, true to the nature of the Empire, Imperial Intelligence is not the only clandestine organisation operating under the Empire's banner, ranging from the infamous and dreaded Inquisition and the Imperial Bureau of Defence.

The Inquisition operates under the Emperor's direct command and deals with only the most dangerous of all threats to the Empire while the Imperial Bureau of Defence primarily deals with law enforcement and state-internal intelligence gathering, often bringing it into conflict with Imperial Intellignece despite both operating under Lord Moranonúngur's command.

Foreign Relations

I would therefore like to congratulate the Cyrannian Empire on committing the greatest number of simultaneous intergalactic acts of war achieved in recorded history outside of Xhodocto influence. I believe your official certificate is being prepared as we speak.

- Apalos, at the dawn of the Second Great Cyrannus War

The Cyrannian Empire's extent and power affords it a somewhat dismissive attitude toward cooperation with other entities which further translates into a policy which revolves around colonialism and ruthless pragmatism. Nevertheless, the Empire enjoys a massive sphere of influence across the Gigaquadrant and has successfully woven a web of political relations with other hyperpowers such as the Delpha Coalition of Planets, serving it well during periods of Gigaquadrantic political calamity, allowing it to capitalise on the misfortunes on its rivals. However, with the outbreak of the Second Great Cyrannus War, a vast coalition of allies joined with the New Republic in declaring war against the Empire.

ImperialDCPMeeting

An Imperial Star Destroyer greets a DCP Dreadnought over the Cyrannic Imperial Battlestation in 05 NE.

In a stark contrast to the United Republic of Cyrannus before it, the Empire saw Rambo Nation as their arch rivals and enemies and the two powers were often at each other's throats. With the signing of the Nim-Glaré Concordat after the brief Rambo-Imperial Conflict of 01 NE, Rambo Nation became a protectorate which enjoyed a largely positive relationship with Orbispira, especially after the Emperor's state visit in 04 NE, which helped to smooth tensions between Orbispira and the Rambo Capital. Under High King Rambert Ramveral, however, the Empire became increasingly aggressive in their stance toward the protectorate, deploying Grand Admiral Valindor Palenix to effectively imprison those on the Rambo Capital.

Prior to the formal outbreak of war in 15 NE, political scientists considered the Empire's most interesting bilateral relationship to be between it and the New Cyrannian Republic, a democratic superpower styled as the lawful successor to the United Republic of Cyrannus. As the two largest civilisations in the Cyrannus Galaxy, tensions between the two powers were rife, and yet, they worked together on common ground such as regulating extragalactic colonisation. In addition, the Empire actively sent a small naval force to the defence of the Republic during the Bisistar Domain's attack on Venetia in 04 NE, signifying unity in the face of a common adversary. Nevertheless, relations between the Republic and the Empire collapsed with the onset of the Cyrannian Cold War, which in turn led to the Second Great Cyrannus War ten years later.

Quotes

Immortality lies not merely in the preservation of our physical shells, nor in the preservation of our genetic legacy, as many in the Council might think. No, my dear, the only way to ensure that our eminent Oikoumene would last eternally is to plant the idea of the Oikoumene in this very galaxy. Though our people might no longer be the lords of Cyrannus, there will come others who will carry on this burden, guided by the same paradigms of iron law and unflinching order that all of us have sworn to uphold. Our empire - an empire - is no more, but the Empire will stand - no longer Oikoumene by blood, but certainly Oikoumene by spirit. And though this new domain may not rise in a year - not even in a millenium, perhaps - it will one day come, and the light that united all the stars together will shine once more - and burn those who would dare to stand against it. I will see to that personally.

- Tyrómairon, speaking with Libraé as the Apotheosis ends.

...all fleets and colonies of the Divinarium in the Cyrandia galaxies, leave the cluster and retreat to Andromeda. We do not know what should we await from this empire.

- Iovera IX

Lost cause. So far I have found little other beneficial outcomes for this nation other than its complete extinction and the elimination of all of its population.

- Jerkon

Feel immediate suppression.

- Khuenaten

We though they would be a good successor to the United Republic... Oh, how wrong I was.

- President Gharrrko

Finally, the Libertus and their galaxy have united, political order restored, and better still, they have seen that totalitarian might is a better remedy for unity than democracy.

- Delpha Coalition of Planets

Of all the ways Cyrannus had to be united, it had to be this one... We cannot trust them.

- Captain Lorrelas

As much as I'm glad they have seen which is the best government, as well as united, I'm not sure what will happen next.

- Kralgon Emperor

Shame, it'll be harder for any activities around here. I'll try spreading my influence somewhere else instead.

- Falrik Zaarkhun

They are indeed formidable; with martial power and structure with the potential to rule this Gigaquadrant. That cannot be allowed to happen.

- Hez'Kalka

You don't scare us.

- Basileus Commander Nakatar (CRA)

Like the Wentals, you have united your galaxy. Let us hope you do not have the same luck as us, otherwise your rule shall be short lived indeed.

- Dylan

Well well well. An empire that spans a galaxy, has a superiority complex, and was born out of pain, war, and suffering. You aren't going to be our friends, of that I am certain.

- Evermind

Constitutional Monarchy, really? What happened to the republic everyone came to love? You ally The Deathmarch and ally the SSA. Make up your minds on who's side your on!

- Shellious Imperium

Sadly I must admit, though in my sight with the wrong means, their new order and peace is impressive together with their military might. Sadly they called us traitors and conquered our colonies in the Cyrannus Galaxy and for that they must pay!

- Empress Ramashe of Rambo Nation

What over bloated hubris drives these imperial bastards forward where they are unwelcome. Go on then, keeping reaching out your hand where does not belong. There will always be something waiting to bite your figures off.

- Lord Dominator Domivere of the United Persan Descendants

An impressive, but false order. Before the Lord of Destruction and the legions which He, as an eschatonic paragon, has inspired, all things shall crumble. This 'Empire' is no exception.
