Galactic editor

Poster describing space time editor

"Galactic editor" is used here to describe a set of distinct tools that can be used to change the Galactic topography.

During an interview with Gaming Steve, Will Wright used a gravity tool to bend space-time. He stated that gravity was fully simulated in Spore, and that most types of celestial bodies could be found in the Spore galaxy. He referred to other tools for creating planetary systems, but he did say that a star or a nebula could be formed simply by moving the mouse. Due to new images (right) from the 2006 GDC Presentation , it seems likely the end-user will have access to these tools. The image on the far right has the caption "Enjoy cosmic hijinks with the spacetime tool." There are prototypes of Spore such as Gaslight and ParticleMan that are similar to the Galactic editor. The ability to make new planets and possibly stars is included in Spore Galactic Adventures, as well as the Adventure creator.

Since then, Spore has been released, and the Galactic Editor is absent from normal gameplay. However, this still does not rule out the possibility of a future forthcoming in an expansion pack, online download, patch, mod etc.

Many questions still exist about this exotic idea:

  • When would this be opened?
  • Is it hidden in the game or not in the retail version at all, waiting for an expansion pack?
  • Is this the last ability you acquire?
  • Is the interface in line with the other "editors"?
  • Can we undo our destruction of solar systems by recombining asteroids into new planets?
  • Can we create a Black Hole?
  • Could we cause Supernovae?
  • Could we create Nebulae?
  • Could we manipulate stellar evolution?
