Vulan is the rocky homeplanet of the Monoculians, and also the home of the capital of the Monoculian empire. As such, it houses the ideal climate of the Monoculians, and most Monoculian colonies attempt to mimic its climate in one form or another.

Geography[]

Vulan is an aged planet, estimated to have been formed around 9 billion years after the creation of the universe. As such, the topography of Vulan consists of many flat rolling hills, with mountain peaks rarely surpassing 1600 meters above sea level. The ocean floor, however, is much rougher due to the planet's rough tectonic history. Because of this, it is believed that the planet's sea level was much lower in the past than it is now.

Atmospheric Contents[]

Vulan's atmosphere consists of mostly nitrogen, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and sulfuric acid vapor, giving the sky and sea a cyan tint. Precipitation of sulfuric acid is common on most of the planet.

Composition[]

Vulan's oceans consist of acidic water, with trace amounts of water appearing near the polar caps. The shores of Vulan are filled with sulfur residue and silica gel, giving the beaches of Vulan yellow and blue colors. Further inland, a combination of various silicates, minerals, and mica flakes create a clay-like substance (refered to as 'Il-Hayif' by the Monoculians) which gives the ground an orange appearance. Higher elevated areas are often heavily eroded and slippery from solid crystals of sulfuric acid melting into liquid form.

Resources[]

Deposits of gold are common on the surface of the planet, alongside curium, sulfur, tyrian purple, gypsum, and various other but rarer minerals. Some of the rarest naturally occurring resources are mercury, emerald, and hassium.

Because of the lack of carbon-based resources on Vulan, the Monoculians experienced an energy crisis much earlier in their histories than other species. As such, resources like coal and natural gas are extremely rare on Vulan and held in concentrated amounts at storage facilities for future use.

Climate and Biomes[]

The general climate of Vulan is fairly uniform: the atmosphere is generally humid, the average temperature of the planet rarely exceeds that of 60° celsius, and precipitation is fairly common

Various different biomes dominate the surface of Vulan. (wow this section is really lame)

Geological History[]

Takaorium piscis

An artists representation of the Takaorium piscis and the world it inhabited.

The star system in which Vulan inhabits was formed roughly 9 billion years after the creation of the universe. Vulan had formed around 700 million years afterwards from spacedust from stars prior clumping together and forming solid rocky masses. The planet stayed as a hadean wasteland filled with molten rock for the first few billion years until enough cooling had occurred for oceans to appear. At first, the seas were a mixture of sulfuric acid, water, and other materials, but as time went on sulfuric acid replaced the others in commodity. Continents started to form around the planet's 3 billionth year of existence, and stayed mostly unicellular until the universe reached its 14 billionth year of existence.

The first complex creatures to appear on the planet were small sea dwelling creatures, named Takaorium piscis by evolutionary scientists, were similar in shape and structure to Pikaia on Earth. These first creatures are assumed to have a omnivorous diet, consisting of various microbial life forms with features similar to members of both kingdom Animalia and Plantae. The Takaorium later evolved into more complicated sea dwelling creatures. Meanwhile, the continents on the planet shifted positions, sunk, and grew at an immense speed of ~5 inches a year.

Land life started to appear ~500 million years after the Takaorium were first spotted in the geological records, and by that time the flora and fauna of the ocean was very diverse. Thus, the first land dwelling creatures stayed as mostly amphibious creatures until enough fauna appeared on the surface for life to move further inland. At this point, Vulan's lands consisted of scattered islands in an archipelago shape, formed mostly by volcanoes and the formerly unstable tectonic plates.
