[edit] Spore as a Sandbox

Spore can be known as a Universal Sandbox, likely because the player can virtually create most aspects of his or her universe (terraforming and creating creatures). However, universal defaults such as gravity still exist.

[edit] Creature Sandbox

In the Creature stage, controlling a creature firsthand creates a virtual sandbox in which the player is their previously designed creature. Associated with the "toy animal" in the sandbox.

[edit] Civilization Sandbox

In the Civilization stage, a full city of previously designed buildings which the player's creatures interact with. Associating the building as the player's "mud castle" in the sandbox.

[edit] Space Sandbox

In the Space stage, the player controls a UFO. Will Wright said the UFO is the player's "Swiss army pocket knife", the UFO has the functions of a creator or a destroyer. UFOs can terraform and destroy, once it becomes extremely advanced. Since the galaxy is the sandbox, we can associate the planets as "grains of sand".

[edit] Other Sandboxes

Other sandbox type games exist. As SimCity the city sandbox, and The Sims the people sandbox. Although these are not necessarily associated with Spore, they are related to the topic.
