[edit] What is Simphoni?

Simphoni is a active Spore and SimCity fansite community of almost 15,000 members. It has a long and storied history that began over four years ago, and we are still going strong. We are already a respected SimCity 4 fansite, one of the three that was invited to preview the game before it was released. However, because SimCity 4 is now over three years old, it is time for us to take a new direction. Many of us are excited about the new game from SC4 creator Will Wright called Spore, and a new version of SimCity is also in the pipeline as well. Both of these are, and will be, the subject of our foremost interests in the coming years.

Along with simulation games such as the ones mentioned above, our collective interests include political debates (which can often get very heated), city planning, and architecture.

[edit] History

Simphoni had its humble beginnings as a site called SimCity Central in March 2002, covering the upcoming game SimCity 4. It was founded by our much-respected administrator Martin. As one of the first communities dedicated to only SC4, we quickly grew to over 500 members by that fall. And as the release date of the got closer, that number doubled and tripled in a matter of months. A month after SC4's release, in January 2003, our numbers had exploded to over 3000 members and we were the most comprehensive and active SC4 community out there.

However, these days were not to last. In March 2003, SimCity Central went down. In that time, many members left to find other homes, while the ones that most loved the community bided their time until, two months later, SCC finally arose out of the dust again. This brought about our transition to a smaller, yet still highly competitive, community. We liken ourselves to a small city where everyone is friendly toward each other, compared to a metropolis where nobody knows anyone. However, we are still the second largest SimCity community out there.

We existed as SimCity Central, run by Martin, until September 2006. At that time we moved to our new adress here at Simphoni, lead by our new administrators, Rexer, Jirnsum, and sdrawkcab. This move facilitates our new focus... Spore and SimCity 5!

Today, Simphoni covers several games and the list is growing. CitiesXL, The Sims 3, City Life, and Building World are among its interests. Also included are game journals from Civilizatoin IV and Age of Empires III. Among the unique features of Simphoni are a semi-regular podcast by member Trixin and a webcomic entitled Sporelings by Oppie.

In 2008 Simphoni the site underwent several enhancements. Among them were an enhanced files storage and exchange area and The Simphoni Shoppe, where items such as software, books, movies, music and more, indluding Spore and related items, can be purchased from and through various international Amazon.com sites.

Simphoni is officialy owned by Simphoni Networks, LLC, a limited liabilitiy company registered in Delaware, USA. Rex Stanfield,(Rexer)is currently the sole shareholder. It presently runs its main news, reviews, previews pages with a registered copy of WordPress and its forum pages are built upon Invision Power Board. The site is hosted registered and hosted at DreamHost.
