[edit] How and when do I sign my name?
When you make a comment on a talk page it is useful to sign your name so others can see who wrote the message and when they wrote it. To sign a message, you use tildes (~) like so:
~~~ = Signature = Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions)
~~~~ = Signature and Time = Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 16:42, 9 February 2006 (PST)
~~~~~ = Time = 16:42, 9 February 2006 (PST)
If someone doesn't sign their name, you can find out who they were through the edit history. You can then use Template:Unsigned to inform other users. Just type:
{{unsigned|name}}
With the name of the contributor replacing "name". This gives something looking a little like this:
[edit] How do I indent messages?
When having conversations in talk pages, you should place your response after another message and indent it, so the flow of conversation is clear. For example:
How is the weather outside? -Bob
- It's not bad, although it's supposed to snow later on. -Mike
- Oooo, I hate snow, so cold. -Angela
- It's actually really hot here. -Scott
It's very easy to indent a message, simply put a colon (:) at the beginning of the line that you want to indent. The number of colons, the further the indent. This is how the above conversation was created:
How is the weather outside? -Bob :It's not bad, although it's supposed to snow later on. -Mike ::Oooo, I hate snow, so cold. -Angela :It's actually really hot here. -Scott
[edit] What about that code box?
The dotted line box around the conversation above is called a code box. A code box has a monospaced font (which means it has equal width characters) and is useful for displaying things that need to be lined up perfectly. Having a code box is very simple, you simply indent a line and it will become part of a code box. Such as this line:
How is the weather outside? -Bob
This was created by putting a space before the "How".
[edit] How do I stop wiki code from happening?
Sometimes you want to have text on a page but the MediaWiki software does something to it that you don't want to happen, such as if you wanted to just mention the template {{stub}}. If you just typed {{stub}} into an article, you would label it a stub article. But if you want to avoid wiki formatting, simply add <nowiki> and </nowiki> around whatever text you want to stay unformatted. For example:
<nowiki>[[Creature]]</nowiki> becomes [[Creature]]
But [[Creature]] alone becomes Creature
[edit] Adding Vehicles
Okay, I made a concept called "Juggernaut scout walker" and added it to the vehicle page, but the name stays red, even though I put the link as the same name as the page... Alpha dilophosaur
It should be at Content:Juggernaut scout walker. I've moved it.-- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 20:15, 8 December 2006 (PST)
[edit] Adding creatures
How do I add my creature to the list?
- Go to the Creature Database and find the category that your creature would belong to. Then click the [edit] link for that category [note that they are seperated into sapient and non-sapient (for creatures that will have history and such)]. Then just add your creatures name within double brackets like this: [[Creature Name]]. You'll also want to put a link to your username in parentheses after it, the link to yours would be: ([[User:El Carlito|El Carlito]]). Then after you are done editing that section, save it. And then just follow your link to your creatures page. THen put all the info in there. If you need formatting help, just ask on your creatures talk page (the "discussion" link at the top). Hope that clears it up. Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 17:26, 1 March 2006 (PST)
[edit] Edit button
Can we have an edit button for the wiki? Delete if this is a stupid question. —This comment was added by Listeel (Talk • Contributions • E-mail).
- I don't understand your question, you clearly edited this page, what do you mean "edit button". Sorry if I don't understand. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions - E-mail) 12:31, 30 May 2006 (PDT)
I have heaps of content i want to add, but everytime i go to, it just writes the format, instead of using it. And it ignores me when i try to upload a icture. I click on upload and my file path dissappears, without anything else happening. -- Briar
[edit] Uploading Sketches
How do I upload drawings? —This comment was added by Dragonkid (Talk • Contributions • E-mail).
- Click the "Upload file" link in the toolbox on the left. Then find your file, give it an easily recognizable internal name (like your creatures name) and add [[Category:Creature Creation Images]] in the summary along with anything else you want to write. If you are uploading something besides a creature (or misc. item related to your creature), have the category be the appropriate image gallery. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) ∞ 08:27, 12 June 2006 (PDT)
No, I meant an actual drawing, off a piece of paper. My computer has a scanner; should I use that? Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.
- Yup, you can the image, then it'll be saved somewhere on your computer, then you use the upload file link to get it on here. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) ∞ 18:12, 12 June 2006 (PDT)
BTW, I have multiple sketches on each page, how do I make it so I have 1 species per file? Do you want me to send you the pages once I've scanned them so you know what I mean? Thanks again.Dragonkid
- You can use a program like paint to cut it up or you could just email them to me (see userpage) and I'll cut them up and upload them for you if I get a shot. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) ∞ 18:24, 12 June 2006 (PDT)
I have another question in this category. If I draw something, but I have no scanner, how can I get it onto the Vexarion page? I have several things, such as a drawing of the species, some vehicles, and an alphabet (less than the Talpa, however). Thank you in advance! Arachoid
- If you can't scan a hand-drawing you will either have to use something that can get a digital copy of it (like take a picture of it with a digital camera) or you'll have to recreate it on your computer, then upload that. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) ∞ 06:56, 12 July 2006 (PDT)
Thank you Mason11987. I plan to use the digital camera, and if all goes well, the Vexarion picture will be up tommorow, as well as a new category of their supersoldiers. {*.*) Arachoid
Okay, Exactly how do you add the picture to your creature page? I uploaded it (the picture), named it horridusops, and put [[Category:Creature concept Images]] as the summary. I go back to the horridusops page, and the picture still doesnt show up! Any help? I forgot how I did it on the reptavian page :^p Alpha dilophosaur
- The file you uploaded is Image:Horridusops.jpg, to put it in the infobox, just put it in as the image, like so:
"| image = Horridusops.jpg"
-- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 23:28, 12 September 2006 (PDT)
I uploaded a new version of my image, but it shows the same old image. What gives? Giant Blue Anteater 14:25, 22 October 2006 (PDT)
- Your computer cached the old image, press Ctrl-F5 or whatever combination does a hard refresh on your browser, so that it will get the real version. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 15:08, 22 October 2006 (PDT)
I have a picture and its file is a .BMP so how do i get it to upload - ive tried everything this page says and ive even hosted it on photobucket but still nothing works, is this to do with the file or is it just me?scintoth
I uploaded the file, and now I just just can't figure out how to give it info like way of mevement and all that stuff. And I still can't get my file on my creature page.--Acjpb 19:49, 31 December 2006 (PST)
[edit] Actual Spore discussion
Do we have anywhere here on sporewiki.com where we can actually just kick back and discuss Spore like a forum would? I have a few things I just wanna talk about with you guys; nothing to do with articles or questions or technicalities of wiki software or whatever. Just casually discussing Spore itself in a live environment. Torvik 19:55, 18 July 2006 (PDT)
- Actually, no, there isn't...hmmm...setting up...SporeWiki:Chat. I'm gonna set up something there to get some talk going. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) ∞ 20:46, 18 July 2006 (PDT)
[edit] My creatures page has grown too big...
My Aurum page has exceeded the recommended page size of 32k (it is now 34k), and I'm wondering what to do. I've noticed a couple of the more information-complex creatures seem to have little "See Also:" things at the bottom of the page, but after hitting the edit button there to see the code for it (the code being "{{AurumNav}}"), and placing it in my own page and previewing it, it didn't do anything other than say in red "Template:AurumNav". How do I get this to function properly? Also, to add new pages like that, should I just make the pages in the Creature Creation Portal like I did for the main Aurum page? The help would be greatly appreciated, because I'd like the Aurum to be as navigatable as some of the more well-known and popular species. - Somarinoa 20:38, 29 August 2006 (PDT)
- (made some links above), although not all long pages are split. There is the Kazea (Concept) which I don't think is too much even though it is 37kb. Although some, like Naucean (Concept) required splitting for obvious reasons. If you want to split your page up, just add a see also section and list the few links to the seperate pages (maybe like the naucean nav thing), and I'll set up the nav box for you. Just post here when you decide what the seperate pages should be. You don't need to have anything like an infobox or the creature database template or anything like that, you can just create it via a link, like Aurum tide pool phase (Concept) (for example). -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 20:48, 29 August 2006 (PDT)
Ok, thanks! Sorry it's taken me awhile, I've had some things I've had to deal with. Anyhow, for what I'm working with now, I think I'll need probably the following currently. Of course, as we progress into other stages (we're about to enter the Tribal Stage in the next week or so probably), I'd like to ask to have more sections added to that, if that would be possible. It'd be a while, though, probably, so no need to worry about it now I suppose. Anyhow, here's the split ups I was thinking of:
- Aurum (Main Page)
- Aurum (Physiology)
- Aurum (Social Behavior)
- Aurum (Offshoots)
- Aurum (Geography)
- Aurum (Cellular Stage)
- Aurum (Sea Stage)
- Aurum (Land Stage)
- Aurum (Tribal Stage)
Thanks in advance, by the way. Again, sorry to keep you waiting.. >.> -- Somarinoa 02:12, 15 October 2006 (ADT)
- Don't worry, I wasn't waiting. I set up {{AurumNav}} for ya and put it on your page. I made some minor changes to the pages you asked for because spore actually uses the term "phase" now, instead of "stage" and it's called "Tide pool phase" instead of "cellular phase" even though hydro didn't do it like that with the naucean (probably because he made those pages before we knew they were called "phases". If you want to keep them how I put them that's fine, if not it's fairly easy to change, or I could do it for you if you like. I also set it up using our subpage structure instead of parenthesis because we're (slowly) changing to that because it's cleaner and makes more sense in general :). Hope it works. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 07:30, 15 October 2006 (PDT)
[edit] How do I go about adding things like planets?
I know about the "Creature Creation Portal" thing for creatures and all...but what exactly is the best way to go about adding planets? I have a couple I would like to begin adding, and considering how little Terrain info we seem to have, I think it'd be cool to add something that there isn't currently much on. - Somarinoa 20:38, 29 August 2006 (PDT)
- terrain database, I'm trying to find a nice way of adding all of the content databases to the main page, or just an easier way of displaying it. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 20:48, 29 August 2006 (PDT)
[edit] Talk pages
How do you make talk pages? Szilardonsporewiki 16:51, 15 January 2007 (PST)
- Simply click the "discussion" tab at the top of the article you'd like to create a talk page for. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 12:51, 22 January 2007 (PST)
[edit] Terrain Database
How does one go about adding Terrain into the Terrain Database? I never did figure out the coding, as it seemed to work differently than the Creature Database. I wanted to add Zalkore of the Theta Equilius system, and later add other planets. Not being able to figure that much out is the only thing keeping me from adding more planets I have planned. - Somarinoa 21:01, 28 January 2007 (AST)
[edit] I can't log in.
KnTenshi here. Even when I request a new password, the log in says that the password is incorrect.
Even if that can't be helped, could someone figure out why all of the links to my Nisodoma page are redirected to a disambiguation of the Urshan? And could you try to fix it, please?
[edit] Creatures
What rally is the point of people putting in creatures? I know it's cool and stuff (i'll probably end up making 1 or 2 myself) but what has it got to do with information on the game?Black87
