I visited Spore Fanatic when it was kicking off. It was up and coming and looked promising. Now when I try to log on my name doesn't come up as existing, which isn't a big deal, sites often have some bugs that may remove a user here or there. I registered a new name and got on. The forums themselve aren't bad, updates to the site are frequent enough. But the fact that I'm not on my personal system means I don't have adblock plus and spore fanatic has excessive ads. They are large, and flashing no less. This is an immediate turn off to me. There are many spore sites who do with little or no ads. And Spore fanatic doesn't seem to have a need for such ads. It seems kind of strange to have a fansite that makes you money when people can easily go to other fansites that are just as good (Planet Spore for example, see a traffic comparison between the two). While sites and domains aren't free it shouldn't be at the cost of the annoyance of the newcomer. Have voluntary donations if the webmaster can't cover the cost and have the core forum members chip in. No need to punish a passerby with flashing ads or non-family friendly ones. The new members drive forums like this, especially when they are a dime a dozen (so to speak) with regards to spore, and this site would have immediatly pushed me off if I was the average user without an adblocker.

Probably above average site, just get rid of the ads...really.
