Statusbars

From SporeWiki, the knowledge base dedicated to Spore

The statusbars show important in-game data, such as health, happiness, and some sort of measurement of one's creature's physical and cultural evolution.

[edit] Cell stage

The statusbar during the Cell stage of the game.

[edit] 2005

The Cell stage statusbar was (and still is) the simplest of the lot: we could see a Heart icon indicating Health, and a Chicken Leg icon that ostensibly stands for Food, which in the early stages of Spore stands for advance towards the next evolutionary step. These were in percentages.

[edit] 2008

In the Final Game , the statusbar has a long scale along the bottom of the screen indicating your cell's size, with the History Button on the right of it and a DNA counter on the left. In the bottom right-hand corner, it shows a green bar for health, and a picture of your cell.

New Version

[edit] 2005

The Creature stage introduces a new bar on top of the established Health and Food ones. Unfortunately, it is hard to make out in the screenshot. When looking at another Creature stage screenshot, it is like either a Ball Lightning, or a Power Plug, hence a stand-in for Energy.

[edit] 2006

On the new statusbar, the icons from left to right are:

  • Stage Icon(?) - Also appears to double as a brain meter that shows the intelligence of your creature
  • Pause/Options Buttons - Standard buttons from all sims games.
  • "DNA Points" - Counter that apparently shows how many DNA points you've earned.
  • Mate Timer(?)
  • Hunger Level - It is a bitten chicken leg.
  • HP - It is a plus sign.
  • The Remaining symbols represent the creature's abilities, in this case the lightning bolt allowing the player to 'sprint'. Adding different parts unlocks different and improved abilities.

[edit] 2008

In the Final Game, the creature statusbar has a scale showing how in intelligent your creature is, with points showing the next step in brain size, the History Button on the right, and a DNA counter on the left. It also has a green bar for health, an orange bar for hunger, a picture of your creature, and above the middle of the Intelligence Scale, it has your attack abilities, social abilities, and your consequence ability. In the Left-hand corner there is a map of where you are, and your planets name.

[edit] 2005

In the Tribal stage, Health gives way to the Simoleon character ยง, established by The Sims as the fictional stand-in for the dollar sign or other indicators of money. This is no longer given as a percentage, but as an absolute number.

The top bar also changes into an absolute indicator of the player tribe's size.

[edit] 2006

The new tribal stage bar is shown and many changes have been made:

  • Pause/Options Buttons - Pause the game/Brings up the options menu
  • Stage Icon - Some creatures together
  • Region Map - Shows a map of the surrounding area, most likely shows the location of your hut and creatures
  • Green/Red Bar - No indication as to what this does
  • Top Counter - Most likely shows the number of creatures in your tribe
  • Buttom Counter - Appears to show the amount of food your tribe has gathered

[edit] City stage

The statusbar during the City stage of the game.
The new statusbar during the City stage of the game.

The City stage eventually substitutes a Smiley for the Chicken Leg, presumably since the onset of civilization eradicates the Food factor from daily life and instead introduces Happiness as a defining vector.

The new statusbar from E3 is shown to the right. The parts of this new status bar are:

  • Pause/Option Buttons - The usual suspects for a sim game
  • stage Icon - Shaped like a city
  • Map - Map of the world, shows your home city and apparently other cities you've encountered, and the direction you're facing
  • Music Note Icon - Most likely shows the culture score of your city, Civilization games generally represent culture with a musical note
  • Crossed Spears Icon - Most likely shows the military size/score of your city
  • Building Icon - No indication as to what this represents. It might be a score of your political influence or number of special structures you've built
  • World Icon - No indication as to what this number means, but is probably the available currency.

Once your species reaches the Civilization stage of the game, Happiness and Population Count are replaced by a Tower and a Car icon, presumably indicating City Count and Vehicle Count respectively.

The new status bar from the E3 2006 video is shown to the right.

[edit] Space stage

The statusbar during the Space stage of the game

On the statusbar/toolbar the icons are as such, from left to right:

  • Stage Icon(?)
  • Health/Repair level - It is a wrench icon.
  • Transportation(?) - Looks like a space ship or an Interstellar Drive.
  • Weapons(?) - Looks like a crosshairs.
  • Teraform Tools(?) - Looks like a grid of a planet.
  • Collection Tools/Beams - Looks like a cardboard box.
  • Find(?) - Looks like a pair of binoculars.
  • Toolbox(?) - Looks like a toolbox.
  • Sporepedia - Looks like a black galaxy on a white paper.
  • Communications(?) - Looks like a satelite dish. Could represent the tool used to listen for radio static to locate solar sytems with sapient life forms, as shown in the 36 min demo.

Also, above and to the left of the Stage Icon is the standard Maxis option menu button with the three dots. (...)

[edit] Editors

[edit] Creature editor

The statusbar in the creature editor. Image 2
New Version.

The status bar for the creature editor displays the stats of the creature you're making. Everything you do to your creature effects these stats in the creature editor, and as such there is a status bar to show this and help players plan their creatures evolution.

The newer version is roughly the same as the one seen in the original GDC 2005 video, but measured in circles. It also seems that more stats are unlocked as the brain is upgraded. They are:

  • Strength - Related to fighting ability, determined by the limbs/weapons given to a creature
  • Speed - Running/Swimming ability, determined by the type of feet and legs
  • Stealth - Ability to sneak, most likely determined by the type of feet
  • Herbivore - Possibly determines how much energy a creature gets from eating fruits and vegetables
  • Carnivore - Possibly determines how much energy a creature gets from eating other creatures or eggs

[edit] Vehicle editor

The statusbar in the vehicle editor.

The status bars in the Vehicle editor simply mark the vehicle as belonging to one of the four categories:

  • Land
  • Sea
  • Air
  • Underwater

There could possibly be a second set of status bars using the small circles to the right of the vehicle icon as seperate tabs.

[edit] Building Editor

The statusbar in the building editor.

The categories in the top left in the Building Editor list the category the building belongs to. These are:

  • Factory
  • Farm
  • Entertainment
  • Housing

Whether there are other categories (to be unlocked by research) is unknown.

There could possibly be a second set of status bars using the small circles to the right of the building icon as separate tabs.
