[edit] To do

A list of things that need to be done on this page.

  • The "First contact" section may need some work (consider it done --Jmaci)
  • Add general information about the UFO, not only about its tools
  • Add more tools if information is available about them
Note: There are a few red links on this page currently, but instead of relinking them to the articles that do exist, they are better left alone for now, since they link to the "proper" article names (See SporeWiki:Cleanup).
-- Andreas Blixt 01:28, 14 May 2006 (PDT)
I'd like to point out that the UFO editor link is red because there is no UFO editor. According to demonstrations I have watched (which means Im more then likely wrong) the UFO is edited in the vehicle editor. I'll fix this up -- Jmaci 22:00, 15 July 2006 (PDT)
In the E3 demo, one of the options in the main menu was an UFO editor. You can see it at the beginning of the Spore Demo Video in this page. http://media.pc.gamespy.com/media/735/735340/vids_1.html Lualmoba 00:43, 16 July 2006 (PDT)
To follow up on what Lualmoba said, the reason it is red is because we have no info on it other then it's existance, and it's hard to start a page based on that (although I plan to soon).
Dont worry, I understand the red links. It appears I have to go look for more videos though, cause every single one I have has Will using the Vehicle Editor for it. My appologies, but hey, I was right when I said "(which means Im more then likely wrong)"
I think the E3 page has links to a few that are worth looking at, and the SporeWiki:Information Repository I set up (and didn't do much with) has some useful stuff too. Be sure to sign your talk edits also (with four tildes ~~~~ if you didn't know). -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 20:15, 16 July 2006 (PDT)
Oh I know how, Im just very good at forgetting to remember to do it. Every now and then I go back and stick em in, but thats time confusing, and clogs up the logs. There is a big list of a whole lot of downloadable stuff at the Gameingsteve website from E3 06, but what I'm really looking for are videos that havnt been compressed. Call me a graphics whore, but I like to be able to focus on what I'm looking at -- Jmaci 21:51, 16 July 2006 (PDT)

[edit] Please Consider

This is not that important but I would like to clear it up. Earlier today I added a lot more detail to the section on the Genesis Device. Soon after someone edited it (which I have no problem with) so that it said it created a biosphere but not necesseraly plants. I was under the impression that plants where part of a biosphere. Like I said, not important but I get picky about these sorts of things. --Deathar 06:56, 16 May 2006 (PDT)

The only changes I made was to change some word that was uppercase when it shouldn't have been, and replaced another word (totally) with a more formal word (completely). I didn't change the context in any way (you can see the diff[erence] between revisions on the history tab).
-- Andreas Blixt 07:16, 16 May 2006 (PDT)

Very sorry, I had mistaken "it is not certain whether it will create actual creatures or just plants" for 'it is not certain whether it will create actual creatures or plants'. The point being that I can't read.

[edit] Every editor but Microbial editor unlocked?

"Every editor except the Microbial Editor is unlocked automatically." Can you cite a source for this?—This comment was added by 80.3.64.9 (TalkContributionsE-mail).

I recall this being passed around as a fact around the time that I joined the Gaming Steve forums. It's not exactly easy to search for, though, and neither Steve nor Maxis (they do answer some emails) have answered me about anything. Samog 18:32, 10 February 2006 (PST) (The reasoning is that the microbial stage is the only one that can't be easily zoomed down to due to its size, lack of creatures, and lack of tools, and so is not available from the UFO at all. 18:34, 10 February 2006 (PST))
I remember that too, I am pretty certain it's true, although I can't cite a source.
It could also be that the developers of Spore would consider it a waste of time to unlock the microb editor, rather then just give you the creature editor. For a start (as far as I can tell) once you are in this phase you can no longer see the microbe stage, so the things you create would be useless to the visual appeal of the game. Secondly, infections, bacteria, etc have been ruled out, so there would be no point trying to create these. Thirdly, and most importantly, it doesnt look like once you have reached the UFO stage you will be able to go back to a stage of the game and begin playing again from there, so you wouldnt be able to play any microbe you made anyway. I feel that the editors are given to you just so you can make more content for either your world, or other worlds you find for use in the stage of the game you are in. With this reasoning, I cant see any logical use for the microbe editor
This was actually stated before we had confirmation that there was no real microbial editor. It's just part of the creature editor, so it could actually unlock all the editors, just not all the parts in them. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 09:05, 16 July 2006 (PDT)

[edit] Stellar terraforming?

I think it would be interesting to use the genesis device on a star and see if this created intelligant beings there. Use on a gas giant would also be interesting. Fingers crossed! --205.188.117.66 16:11, 16 May 2006 (PDT)

Nope. You can only go close to terrestrial planets. Unless, there was the issue of white spice, which could allow the Staff of Life to be used on a gas giant to raise the T-Score. Mrb10 22:58, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

No, you would have to go onto the planet's terrain, an imposibility on stars and gas giants. 12.32.58.75 16:31, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Useful info and some pictures

Lualmoba at gamingsteve poste this. Worth exploring I think. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 13:16, 21 May 2006 (PDT)

[edit] Funny.

"By dropping a monolith, you can uplift a non-sapient species into the tribal stage, and they may worship you." They got this from 2001 [A Space Odyssey], didn't they? :P —This comment was added by Defcon (TalkContributionsE-mail).

I believe so, I can't wait to do it. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions - E-mail) 19:56, 29 May 2006 (PDT)
Yeah, Will's a big fan of Kubrick. Check out the bottom of Will Wright. --Daxx (T C) 04:16, 30 May 2006 (PDT)

They don't worship you, but they like you more. I think it is around plus 20 or 30. 12.32.58.75 16:31, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] UFO Toolbar!

There's a new(?) photo on Spore's page of a planet, and it has a bar at the lower left hand corner!!! I shall let the rest of you disect it. :) --Navenfaux 00:57, 16 July 2006 (PDT)

As stated on my talk, we already have it, but it's worth mentioning on this page too. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 09:05, 16 July 2006 (PDT)

[edit] Spaceship

Shouldn't it be spaceship, NOT UFO? You arn't piloting an unidentified flying object, your flying a spaceship that you yourself created. IFO maybe? Ringhloth 02:31, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

And you think Will Wright would make this a logical game with correct labels? I think you haven't heard about "steve".24.211.84.53 20:36, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

I have gotten to the center of the galaxy, twice, and i have never seen your ship refered to as a UFO. Plain and simple, you made your own ship. It is recorded in your sporepedia. you identified it.
well, just because you identified it dosn't mean a non sapient species has, so would it not be a ufo to them?

[edit] Update

Um, this page really needs to be updated... It contains E3 '06 information, and the images are clearly from a pre-release build of the game, probably from E3 demonstrations. Jedibob5 23:40, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Agreed. 12.32.58.75 16:31, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
