Colors of welcome message

Yeah, I'm not a webpage designer, it took me a whiel to make it look that decent. Thanks :) -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 08:24, 18 May 2006 (PDT)

I think there is parhaps a bit to much yellow other then that I like it. Drin 10:34, 31 May 2006 (PDT)
Well, we always welcome comments and changes, just make a Main Page/test if you want to mix things up a little and give us another design. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions - E-mail) 21:02, 1 June 2006 (PDT)
I did that now :) no big change, but I changed the colors of top and bottom, gives a bit more focus to the "creature of the day" I think. Main Page/test Drin 02:33, 2 June 2006 (PDT)

On release of an early creature editor (From Will Wright)

I recently sent Will Wright and email about SporeWiki and about the creature editor, I said:

Talk:SporeWiki
I sent you an email previously from the address ______ and you responded quickly answering all my questions. I just want you to know how much respect I have for someone who can be so dedicated to their fanbase. But I had a question to ask you if you have a chance and if this ends up going into a pile of emails that you can't answer due to a flooded inbox (which I suppose was partially my fault) then I completly understand if you can't respond. But I was wondering if you or anyone at maxis has stumbled across www.sporewiki.com? I am one of the bueracrats there (basically one of two in charge) and we thought that Spore of all games diserved a wiki dedicated to it. We believed that the community development of information and collaboration is exactly what Spore is based off of and having a wiki to do the same thing is perfect. I set up a creature database where fans can submit creatures they have created to a central location where anyone can find them. We have collected 131 seperate creatures which dozens of spore fans have submitted (although quite a few were from Hydro whom you met). Fans have created very intricate and elaborate designs of creatures they want to make and I think it would be a terrible thing if fans like these weren't given a chance to help populate the Spore servers before the game officially came out. I heard talk about releasing the creature editor before launch and if it is true I was wondering if you could give us an estimate of when that might happen. I realize that it is more then likely one of the most complicated pieces of the game so working on it until close to release is perfectly understandable, but I think to not have a vibrant and varied galaxy at release would be a dissapointment.

Also, I was wondering when we might expect some more information on spore developments so that we could let others know about it.

Of course, if you'd like to leave me a message on my talk page on the wiki instead of by email, I'm always there to respond. Thanks if you can respond, or even if you just read this. :)

Thanks, Chris Mason (Mason11987 from sporewiki)

Chris,

Yes, I came across Sporewiki quite a while ago and check on it from time to time.

We're still working out our launch schedule and such, don't have any good estimates to give out yet.

Just wanted to let you guys know about this, just pretty cool that they know about this . Can't help but be happy about him knowing about sporewiki. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions - E-mail) 14:35, 30 May 2006 (PDT)

It's certainly cool that Will Wright comes to SporeWiki now and then! When it comes to the release of a creature editor, I doubt he'd be allowed to tell us even if he knew the roughest of dates (since the publishers usually take care of releasing any information). It would be cool if the developers agreed to choosing a random Spore fansite and answering a question of theirs every week or so (I've seen other companies do it), but it's not likely.

Cool! Its nice that WW takes time out to some and visit SporeWiki, maybe looking through our creatures and posts. Cool... Garfunkle20 10:58, 31 May 2006 (PDT)Garfunkle20

whats his email? —This unsigned comment is by Travisrules (talkcontribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

I wouldn't give out his email because it'll just flood his inbox. He isn't going to answer most questions in general, especially when he gets a lot of them. If there are questions that you want to ask then ask here, and if it can't be found then it's likely he (or EA, or Maxis itself) never intended it to be known as of yet. Sorry. Also, when you post on talk pages, use four tildes (~~~~) -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 20:14, 20 August 2006 (PDT)

Moving the welcome message

Could we move the welcome message down a bit, do you think? I don't think it needs to be at the top any more. --Daxx (T C) 09:56, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

I put in Drin's ideas for a different color welcome message and I think it's a good improvement and doesn't stress it too much. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions - E-mail) 00:16, 9 June 2006 (PDT)
Yeah, that works. --Daxx (T C) 07:05, 11 June 2006 (PDT)

AdminBot doing silly things?

Why did it just add a link on "eve" in developmen on this page?

It's still there... July 18th... Torvik 20:22, 18 July 2006 (PDT)

And why did it at add a "random" <br> in creature of the day section? (and isn't it unneded to user html for line breaks anyway? At least use true xhtml then with: <br/>

What happened? - Drin 15:42, 12 June 2006 (PDT)

Ööh... oh :D -- Drin 15:56, 12 June 2006 (PDT)

Mason in a fanfic story

I found that Chris Mason, the super mod was in one of the fanfic stories. Do you know about this? It is in this story: Earth Alliance, written by garfunkle20. His name is in the economics bit. Did anyone else know this? Or am I just a bit slow in the news bit...?

haha, wow, that's interesting, I didn't notice that :). -- Mason11987 (T - C - E)  11:55, 27 June 2006 (PDT)

Number spam hit

We were recently spammed by these several IPs with the number spam, it took me about a half hour of work to clean it up even though I was doing it as fast as I think I could have. I think it might be best to turn off IP edits for the near future, til we can figure out what's going on with this at least. Here is info on the IPs

News Spelling

I've edited the news pieces on the Main Page on their respective articles for a few spelling mistakes, but it isn't updating on the main page itself. Would it be possible to tie the stories dynamically into the main page body? --Daxx (T C) 08:03, 7 August 2006 (PDT)

If all stories were small enough to fit on the main page, then yes. But the fact is that there needs to be a seperate summary for it to all work out. You edited the main page, but the summary itself has not been changed. I'm going to tweak the news system a little so the summary will be easy to find from the main story. That's the best that I think I can do with a wiki system, since it can't automatically take a certain amount of characters or anything like that to make a summary. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 15:00, 7 August 2006 (PDT)
Now each news stories date links directly to date where it can be found (so it is displayed in the "news tables" format on the main page. Both the story itself, and the summary in the news tables need to be edited if you want to fix something, I COULD put a link on the news tables (on the main page) themselves that would allow you to edit them directly, but I don't want to protect them and I don't like having something so easy to vandalize on the main page. See, SporeWiki_fansite_review_system_created for an example of the change I made. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 15:06, 7 August 2006 (PDT)
