Talk:System requirements
From SporeWiki, the knowledge base dedicated to Spore
I'm surprised this never made it's way over to spore wiki. Apparenltly it seems Will was using a Clevo Brand Laptop during the 1st spore presentation at the 05GDC. (Thank you intensive Googling!) http://www.gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?topic=3056.msg88121#msg88121 read through from there to the end of the post for the general details. Page 8 is LadyM giving me a cookie, but page 9 is further inquiry into the exact model of the computer. It should give us a rough general idea to where system requirements may be if anyone wants to incorporate this info into the Wiki. -Sgore 16:23, 31 May 2006 (PDT)
- Well, wasn't the GDC'05 demonstration also decided to be more or less a video with spot-on commentary? If he was using the same one at E3'06, then we have something to work with. - Yossitaru (Talk - Contributions) 20:50, 31 May 2006 (PDT)
- Gonna have to second that, the specs for that computer are most likely the requirements for running a long spore VIDEO, not really anything about the game itself. Although it MIGHT be related so having the specs could be useful. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions - E-mail) 21:13, 1 June 2006 (PDT)

Not sure how to go about using wiki, as I was really just looking for spore information. Anyway, someone has said "In the Spore GDC video, Will Wright talks about playing procedural 3D games on old Apple IIs, written by the dark artists of old" but when listning to the movie all he says is that they made games smaller by using procedural code, nothing about 3d, and certainly nothing about running anything of this scale on an old Apple II (but I dont think you were suggesting this). If Im completely wrong, or have written this into the discussion in the wrong way, sorry, but I just wanted to let you know that it doesnt seem to read right to me.
- Well you can edit itself the page if you think it's wrong (that's what a wiki is after all). You should make an account too so that your comments don't show your ip address, I left a welcome message on your talk page and directed a link back to here in case you're not sure how to find this page again. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) ∞ 08:00, 26 June 2006 (PDT)
- I dont mind my ip address being logged, I've got no need for privacy. As far as my wiki editing goes I just correct grammer here and there so I dont see the need for an account(I think I have done something somewhere in the sporewiki...cant remember). My reluctance to edit this issue is that I feel others would be more "in the know" then I, so if I leave it to them I wont stuff something up. I've also just noticed that it says "optimised for dual core CPUs" but wouldnt this be a little limiting with the upcoming quad core CPU's? Maybe the best that could be said here is optimised for 64bit, as I havnt heard of anyone fidling around with 128 bit processors for mainstream computers yet...again, not something Im sure is correct for this page
- While I think the dual core and 64 bit stuff is correct, I think maybe we should hold off on that kind of speculation. I'm not sure if we actually know what it is "optimized" for after all. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) ∞ 14:48, 2 July 2006 (PDT)
- I bit the bullet and edited it a bit. From what I gather about Wiki pages, if this is wrong it should be easily reversable, so thats good. Sorry if no one likes it
- Nice biting, I like it. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) ∞ 08:45, 3 July 2006 (PDT)

I think Will Wright said that if you can run the Sims 2 on your PC, you can run Spore, the graphic arn't realy special and scaned creatures dont exactly take up much memory. --Plank of Wood 09:17, 30 March 2007 (PDT)
[edit] Ok, Apparently he was using a Dell XPS M170 Laptop at E3.
Compair this(From the Robin Williams Video): http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1734727723734486891&q=spore To this(A CNET review of the M170, should include requirements. It's the same model.): http://reviews.cnet.com/Dell_XPS_M170/4505-3121_7-31520758.html So. Yay! We now know what computer he was using at E3 06. And have a better Idea of the System requirements!

[edit] OS
Hey, do we just wanna mention that at least for now, (cough cough pleeeaaasee Mr. Wright) it will only run on windows machines? I just think that's something worth mentioning. (unsigned)
- More specifically about OS, I'm curious as to whether its going to run on Win32 or if they might be moving towards Vista only? Akuyume 17:06, 21 May 2007 (PDT)
[edit] Operating System
If anyone was asking about the operating system look at this: http://www.news.com/Coming-to-the-Mac-in-2008-Spore/2100-1043_3-6226087.html?tag=nefd.top Spore is obviously coming to mac. Also, it would just be stupid for WW/EA to make it vista only. That would severely limit the number of people buying/playing the game, since many still use xp.
[edit] Questions
- It has been proposed this section should be closed, as it does not add to the value of this article.
Here gamers can put questions about the requirments in the following manner
For the question two below this one about the Windows Vista Home Premium, I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE graphics card with the following memory: Total graphics memory: 623 MB, Dedicated graphics memory: 128 MB, Dedicated system memory: 0 MB, Shared system memory: 495 MB, Primary monitor resolution: 1280x1024. WILL SPORE WORK FOR MY COMPUTER?!!!
Will a Dell Dimenson E521 with 1.80 GHz CPU windows XP SP3 with a Fast Nivida GPU run Spore perfectly even with it set to the highest settings?
- It will run it, but a small chance it will run at max.
Will this system work for Spore?: Windows Vista Home Premium AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.30 GHz 1918 MB RAM 32-bit Operating System
- It depends if you have a good graphics card. Try the GeForce 8600GT 256/512MB
Can a ATI Radeon 9600/ X1050 run Spore? Even if Spore is set to least graphic intensity? AKA this article mentions that Geforece 4 or better will run but then you go to ATI X300? Answer: Most likely on low graphics settings, and the ATI X300 should be fine.
Will this game run on Vista, XP sp1, XP sp2, Linux, Mac? Answer: It is confirmed that its Windows Vista compatible and is also been realesed for the Mac. However the rest have not been confirmed.
Will this game run on just directX 10 or directX 9 or both? Answer: Most likely both. Will Wright said it can run on computers as old as 2004 in which Direct X 9.0 was on sale.
Will a machine with these specs be able to run Spore?: 1.67 GHz Athlon XP 2000+ Palomino, 512MB DDR-266 PC2100 (2x 256), Radeon 9200 (ATi model) 128MB Answer: Not confirmed
Will this machine be able to run this game?: 2.4GHz Pentium IV, 512MB RAM, Radeon9250 (third party model) 256MB Answer: Yes
Will this machine be able to run this game?: 1.6ghz pentium IV dual core, 2 gb ram, Nvidia Geforce Go 7600 256MB? RAM and graphics should be fine, the 1.6ghz dual core should be fine also.
Will the newest Macbook (2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 gig of RAM, X3100 Intel) run this game? Answer: You might be able to fit it in, problem is with the graphics which are onboard. Heres a list of games which run on the X3100 Intel and what settings they are set to: http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intelgm965/sb/CS-026146.htm.
Will this PC be able to run Spore? Intel Pentium 4 3.00 GHz, 256 Mb Ram, Geforce FX 5200 256 Mb Answer: Probably not unless you upgrade the RAM
Will Spore even use any version of DirectX, or will it be OpenGL? I'd suspect the latter, due to the (eventually) large number of platforms, and it's simultanious PC/Mac release, but I'm no expert on this kind of stuff(hence why I ask).
Will a Dell Inspiron E1505, with 1.6GHZ 1024MB RAM and a INTEL(R) GMA950 Card Run Spore at a decent enough setting without lagging...?
Will a PowerPC iBook G4 with 1.33 GHz (uh oh), 1 GB RAM, and an ATI Mobility Radeon 9550, 32 MB VRAM be able to support Spore?
