Xylan The Corruptor

"What remains of Crogenitor Xylan: The Corruptor, destroyer of civilizations. His powers dwarf those of all other Darkspore." - HELIX

The Corruptor is the primary antagonist in Darkspore, the final boss of the game, and one of the 12 known Crogenitors - including the player.

He was once the powerful Crogenitor known as Xylan, a rogue Crogenitor scientist that came across the exponential amino acid, E-DNA, during his studies. After the creation of The Darkspore, further experimentation with E-DNA was outlawed, and Xylan was thrown into exile by his peers.

During his exile, he became convinced that he, and only he, could withstand the effects of the transfection of E-DNA - but he was far from correct. When the other Crogenitors contacted him, he only said : "Soon, there will only be Darkspore..." This was the last time he was heard from.

After he revealed himself as 'The Corruptor', he fled to Cryos where he formed his hideout. He then mutated other Crogenitors on Cryos turning them into Destructors.

Lore[]

The Corrupter

The Corruptor, as seen on the Darkspore BETA website, partially obscured by Zrin.

A brilliant Crogenitor, Xylan pioneered galactic E-DNA research. That research produced violent mutants who slaughtered most of the engineers who created them. Despite the bloodshed, Xylan argued that banning E-DNA would be a crime against science and would deny civilization the greatest achievements of galactic history.

Exiled to unexplored space for his negligence, Xylan apparently died when his ship's plasma coil ruptured . In fact, Xylan faked his own death, and with help of shadowy allies, he escaped to the Noktroto Nebula. There Xylan transfected himself with E-DNA to gain powers beyond any the galaxy had ever seen.

Xylan gathered like-minded Crogenitors to expand his grim experiments. With the nebula hiding him from his enemies, he subjected nineteen planetary biospheres to his cruel E-DNA testing. Ultimately weaponizing billions of life forms, Xylan selected the DNA he deemed superior, combining genes and incorporating radioactive isotopes into the DNA molecule itself. His new E-DNA, even more powerful than the original, dramatically accelerated mutation and adaptation.

Now as the Corruptor, Xylan emerged with his Darkspore horde to engulfe the stars in the Mutation Wars. He destroyed the Crogenitor civilization, charring its ancient capital Perceptum into a world he renamed Scaldron.

Battle[]

While fighting the Corruptor in-game, you will find he can assimilate himself to your current heroes type, effectively making him able to kill you in half the time.

Phase 1:[]

Upon reaching The Corruptor at his enclave on Scaldron, he will randomly alternate between different phase, one for each Genesis-type.

Though he attacks mainly by smashing and stomping, he can also spawn destructible objects called Enemy Portals. Resembling Mutation Agents, these each summon Minions of a certain genesis-type, based on The Corruptor's current phase. He can direct those enemies to attack the player, as well as emit a red pulse that will restore all damaged portals back to full health. He will also spawn more if some are destroyed.

Speaking of genesis, The Corruptor can also assimilate himself to your current heroes type, effectively making him able to kill you in half the usual time. In addition, He can use the special attack of any other Destructor, depending on his current state:

  • Bio: Orcus' Pathogenic Breath
  • Cyber: Arcturus' Dual Laser Beams
  • Necro: Nashira's Banshee Scream
  • Plasma: Merak's Lightining Chain
  • Quantum: Polaris' Gravity Well

Phase 2:[]

After his HP reach 0%, the Corruptor will teleport out of the arena, leaving you to deal with his portals and Minions. He will then return with a new health bar, this time three times larger.

He will gain the ability to spawn more portals, each being able to summon Minions from all five Genetic Types.
