Well my visit to E3 was exhausting. First I had trouble finding where to get my badge. Then I was told to fill out an application so I did, but then they told me to fill it out on the computer. Then the badge maker did not work and they almost forgot to attach the chip (in which I somehow lost during the day). Then waited in line to get in and once I got in I took a video of the EA booth, then stood in line for Spore. Watched the demo without Will Wright then at the end he snuck in a I told him who I was, but then had to sit though another presentation cause he was doing it. At the end I got to shake his hand and that was it. They kicked me out and sent me to the VIP room.
In the VIP room I waited and met Maxis peoples and could not have a video. However I was allowed to take pictures of little clay models of creatures. After the wait I was allowed to play with the creature editor with Caryl Shaw. In which I tried to make a Naucean. But I used some parts that were not finished and broke the model!! Thus I tried again with my Wooly Grutatherium and did it super fast before they kicked me out. Caryl Shaw said shewould e-mail me a picture of my creature(s). As for questions I really did not get to ask very much. It was rushed and they keep to busy to think. I did learn that many parts are not fixed yet such a tentacles (which I broke). And its much easier to make a creature on the fly than it is with a set plan to follow. All in all I did mange to give them my resume with my e-mail on it ;) (sneaky me). And you can all dissect the videos and pictures I have for info. All I can say is Maxis is good to keep you distracted so you don’t ask too many questions.
I am disappointed I did not get an interview with Will Wright or an autograph but I was glad to meet part of the Maxis team and see what the editor is first hand. All I can describe it as is clay. Cause it has a much different feel than say other 3D programs like Maya or 3DS. In fact I was having trouble using it because I am so use to those other programs. Will makes it look easy. But of course I think it was harder because I had something in mind I wanted to make rather than just playing and making something new.
