[edit] Sysop Application

I wish to become a sysop if my contributions are good enough for the site. If you have any questions, I will be willing to answer.

--Mellainius 05:42, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I would like to make a similar request.

I became a bit disillusioned a while back and left for a while, but with the new information that has been coming out, I'm ready to start working on this Wiki again.

Edit: After going through the wiki a bit, I realized that the project of moving creature pages to the Content namespace has not moved much during the time I was absent. I have tried to help with it, but my limited powers don't allow me to have much of a significant effect. Lualmoba 03:06, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

I would also like to become a sysop as wellVenomclaw 19:04, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Could you...

could you replace the <ncl> extension with the enhanced version shown here. Thanks! -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions - E-mail) 14:41, 7 June 2006 (PDT)</ncl>

Done. Zorlac
Sweet, thanks. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions - E-mail) 07:37, 8 June 2006 (PDT)
/*
 * Nice Category List extension.
 * Generates a list of all pages in the category, including subcategories.
 * Unlike the default category list, the generated list is flat and shows
 * well, even with long page names.
 *
 * Usage:
 *   <ncl [options]>Category:Some Category</ncl>
 *
 * The following options are available:
 * maxdepth Maximum category depth; default 32
 * style 'bullet' to show category contents as bullet lists
 * 'compact' for a more compact listing
 * showcats Non-0 to display sub-category links in "bottom" (ie.
 *                    maxdepth) categories (default 0).
 * showarts Non-0 to display articles in categories (default 1).
 *   headings         'head' to display category headings as Wiki headings;
 * 'bullet' to display category headings as large bullets
 * ('bullet' works well with 'style=compact').
 * headstart With 'headings=head', the heading level to list
 * top-level categories with (level increases for sub-cats).
 *
 * Examples:
 * 1. This:
 *      <ncl>Category:Some Category</ncl>
 * generates a full, recursive listing.
 *
 * 2. Use this in a template:
 *      <ncl style=compact maxdepth=2 headings=bullet headstart=2
 *                            showcats=1 showarts=1>Category:{{PAGENAME}}</ncl>
 * and include it in major category pages to provide a nice 2-level (or however
 * many you like) index of the category.
 *
 * 3. This:
 *      <ncl style=compact headings=bullet headstart=2 showcats=1
 *                            showarts=0>Category:Categories</ncl>
 * generates a full cagtegory listing, with indentation indicating category
 *    containment.

[edit] When welcoming new members

When welcoming new members you might want to use use this instead

== Welcome ==
{{SUBST:welcome|name}}

that way the welcome template doens't have to be loaded everywhere, it just puts the welcome message text in it's place. You can of course use the ip versions of the welcome1 versions with that too, thanks -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions - E-mail) 17:59, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

[edit] Uncategorized Images

I was planning on going through all the uncat'd images we have and put them somewhere, but I proposed a change to mediawiki here and they set something up. I don't completly understand it, but if you could go through and set it up somehow (I'm not completly sure how you would do so) it would be unbelievably useful. Thanks if you can. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E)  07:32, 18 June 2006 (PDT)

Had a little trouble, their code wasn't perfect =p. It's up though! Special:Uncategorizedimages -Zorlac
You are the man, well done. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E)  07:18, 19 June 2006 (PDT)

[edit] MediaWiki release

There was/is a bug in mediawiki 1.6.x, that has been fixed since 1.6.6, and they say upgrade is "strongly recommended"[1] not really an issue I imagine, just thought I'd let you know. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E)  09:34, 19 June 2006 (PDT)

[edit] Upgrade to 1.7

link. As far as I know, there isn't anything critical to the upgrade, but if you feel like it and have time, go for it. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E)  07:00, 12 July 2006 (PDT)

[edit] Vandalism?

I recently went to the main page, and there is nothing there except: ____________________________________________

Main Page

<

____________________________________________

Whats up with that? Is it a case of vandalism, or a major edit? I lack the skillz to redo it myself, so I just wanted to get the word out. Sorry if this shouldn't be on this page, I didn't know where else to put it... Arachoid 12:09, 2 August 2006 (PDT)

Well its not there now, and i didn't see any changes int he log to show that it might have been changed. Maybe a bug? Zorlac
Maybe. It is gone now, but it did freak me out a little... I didn't know wikis could get bugs like that. Arachoid 14:34, 3 August 2006 (PDT)

[edit] Updated all the welcome templates

I just updated all the welcome templates, now you need to type less to place them on red-linked talk pages, just do this:

For anonymous IPs:
{{subst:welcomeip}} (to use the welcome image)
{{subst:welcomeip1}} (to not use the welcome image)

For registered users:
{{subst:welcome}} (to use the welcome image)
{{subst:welcome1}} (to not use the welcome image)

you no longer need to type in your username, it automatically signs for you, just letting everyone know. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 14:08, 4 August 2006 (PDT)

[edit] New Logo

I made this logo for you incase you wanted a new one. New Logo It's transparent, so the background will still show through, I think it wouldbe a good improvement. --Subpar 05:05, 20 August 2006 (PDT)

Hm, I like the spiral. Though i'm nont that fond of the font. If you could do me a favor and give me just the spiral i'd probably re-work the current logo to use it. Zorlac

[edit] Content talk

Are you sure content talk is correctly set as a talk page, and set to be linked to content? It appears to be just another namespace and not a discussion space of content. -- Mason11987 (T - C - E) 09:14, 6 December 2006 (PST)

There, I finally fixed the Content talk. All should be well with the wiki... now to do regular maintenance and add those videos! Hah... right. - Zorlac

[edit] I have two questions

  • 1) Will we be able to name our own planets after we've created them?
  • 2) Will it be possible to visit gas giants like that in one of the videos?

I know nothing about Spore so I would really like some answers^^ --Raven 03:38, 13 March 2007 (PDT)

[edit] New Skin

It may just be my computer, but the new skin is somewhat buggy for me. On ALL pages it overlaps the top of the page, disabling me from reading it. I tried taking it off, but guess what? It also overlaps the "Skins" button on my preferences page.

Any help on this would be great. Mattimeo 18:29, 23 April 2007 (PDT)

Hopefully you read this, but what browser do you use? The theme works in firefox, and is completely changeable in IE with only one bug. If i knew then maybe i could try to correct... Zorlac 23:21, 23 April 2007 (PDT)
It works perfectly in firefox, the main content column goes too high in IE, and in opera it works well enough. In Konqueror it also works well enough. I'm just assuming here that you use a Mac... can't say what safari does to it. Zorlac
I usually use Firefox 2.0, but on IE 7 it does the overlap thing. If you change the skin to "Monobook" it works fine, no funky overlap issues. Mattimeo (you read Brian Jacques, don't you?), you have really three options:
One, you can just deal with it.
Two, you can use Firefox 1.5 or 2.0, that should fix it.
Or Three, get IE 7. If your PC can't handle it (or you have a Mac, because I don't think IE 7 is available for Macs), then go with getting Firefox 2.0
As a side note, Firefox 1.5 is NOT available for download. The only way to get it is to copy it off of someone else's PC. I just looked at the folder that holds all the crap for Firefox, and beleive me, it is HUGE. So it's just easier to get 2.0 or upgrade if you wish. Either way, as long as you have Firefox 1.5 or better, there should be no problems with the new theme. As for the overlap covering up the skins tab in preferences, use someone else's computer, be it Mac or PC, to change your skin to Monobook. Or you can just get Firefox, which is a heck of a lot better than IE 7 anyway! --Dragonclaws1191 10:02, 3 June 2007 (PDT)

[edit] Talk Page Idea

Zorlac, maybe you should set up a Q&A Talk Page at some point when the wiki has no urgent, major things to do. I'm asking this because I have noticed that there are some people who know nothing about SPORE (see, oh, about two headers up) and have some questions that need answering. Frankly, there is some stuff I don't know (again, see two headers up) and want to know. Might be a good idea, then again, maybe not.--Dragonclaws1191 10:11, 3 June 2007 (PDT)

[edit] SporeWiki Press

Hi there, not sure if you saw this article about Sporewiki.. http://spectrum.buffalo.edu/article.php?id=33492 Pretty cool! I don't know who Vetsin is, but he's quoted alot :) angies@Wikia (talk) 17:25, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Actually, Vetsin IS Zorlac. Just another alias i use. I didn't actually expect him to quote me so much... -76.171.188.236
Haha, that's cool. You should mention this on the mainpage. This is great press for the wiki!

Also, I saw your notice about the custom ski , however I can't figure out how to see it (using Firefox). Did you customize Monobook or Quartz skin? angies@Wikia (talk) 17:37, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spam pages

Hi, im an Admin from the Call of Duty Wiki, and I came here to possibly fix up small grammar and spelling problems, and mabye to add some information to stub articles. To my surprise, I found large amounts of small articles with absoulotely no content, or some that was clearly spam. This needs to be solved, as when Spore is released, I am sure there will be more traffic coming to this site. I have told you this because you were the first Admin to that I have seen. If you knew this alreadym than I suggest you to ask a Wiki janitor to mabye come to help deleate the large amounts of spam pages. If you know this and dont think its a problem, Im sorry I wasted your time. If you did not know this, then I suggest following the advice of what I said if you knew this already. Well, nice meeting you and I hope this Wiki improves even more. Xx R3D SH1FT xXITS P90 TIME!Beastin it UP!22:24, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hi!

Hi Zorlac! I'm Richard, one of Wikia's Helpers who specializes in Gaming Wikis. I'm here to help out your wiki by improving navigation, creating useful templates, creating new content, improving some MediaWiki pages, welcoming new users, expanding current content, and more. Feel free to ask me if you need help with a template or contact me if got something in mind you'd like me to do on my talk page. I look forward to contributing with you! I've left this note on all the administrator's talk pages as well.--Richard 17:14, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Admin? Well, why not?

I had a little conversation with Kirkburn about this wiki. There seems to be very little admin activity here, so he suggested i'd apply. I have experience as an "advanced" user (watchdog) from wowwiki and I am currently learning "how to admin" at Mpedia. I have also been working on a few ideas for the wiki (see my subpages), including a site skin, new mainpage design and a few more things. Osetc 21:36, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Done, sorry if It took a while. Hence why I need new sysops. Zorlac

[edit] Logo proposition

I looked at the logo the day I got here and I can't say I'm very impressed by it :P So I made one of my own which I'm fairly happy with and I think it suites the wiki pretty well. So here it is:

sporewikiabh7.gif

Right now it is located at imageshack.org so maybe it should be uploaded in some better place? (like here?)--Psyphil 17:24, 3 August 2008 (GMT+1)

Make it a non-moving png and it's got my vote. Oset

OK, Here is the original:

thanks for the comments guys :D--Psyphil 15:40, 4 August 2008 (GMT+1)

Since you seem to be busy lately, I was bold and went and changed the logo. If you come back and for some reason don't like it, feel free to revert me. Osetc 21:49, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
